24 Hour Slaw
1 head cabbage,fine - shredded
(about 8 - 10 cups)
2 large onions,very thin - sliced
2 cloves of garlic,mashed,(optional)
1/3 cup sugar
Hot Dressing:
1/2 teaspoon celery seeds
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
( I use 1 teaspoon Keen's Hot Mustard Original)
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup Canola oil
Stir the 1/3 cup of sugar into cabbage.
Place half the cabbage into a large bowl.
Cover with onion,(garlic).Top with remaining
cabbage.
For the hot dressing,combine the sugar and spices and
vinegar in a saucepan.Bring to a rolling boil,add oil,stirring and
return to a rolling boil.
Pour the hot dressing slowly over cabbage.
DO NOT STIR !!
Cover and refrigerate at once.
Chill for 24 hours.Stir well about 1 hour before serving.
Refrigerate until serving time.
