Has anyone tried Coca-Cola Blak?
« on: April 06, 2006, 04:47:51 PM »

It's different!

The press release says:

Quote
Coca-Cola Blak is an invigorating and stimulating blend that has a perfect balance of the effervescent taste sensation of Coca-Cola and natural flavors, with real coffee. The lightly carbonated, mid-calorie beverage, which is designed to appeal to adult consumers, is yet another example how The Coca-Cola Company reaches out to new audiences and addresses new beverage occasions.

"Coca-Cola Bla;k is not just a flavor extension. It is a blend of unique Coke refreshment with the true essence of coffee and has a rich smooth texture and has a coffee-like froth when poured. We believe we have created a new category of soft drink – an adult product in a carbonated beverage – and a whole new drinking experience. This brand is ideal for any part of the day when people are looking for renewed energy or simply to take a break," said Marc Mathieu, vice president, Global Core Brands, The Coca-Cola Company.

DH and I think it might be good as a float with french vanilla ice cream.

OOoooooo. Coffee.  I'll be trying it when I see it.  In sugar-free, of course.

I just about fainted once when a diabetic friend told me that the first thing she had to give up when diagnosed was mountain dew.  She was drinking 2000 calories per day of soda.

*thud*

Of course, I was raised on diet soda and look how skinny I am.  <insert irony>

I'll take a look but I suppose the caffine content will be over the top.  I love coffee and I love Coke but

Well, I like it -it's different, and my first few sips were questionable.  I love coffee -and have tried just about every kind I can get my hands on. I grind my own beans and have my own espresso maker.

I almost never drink soda.  As a kid, I drank Coke a lot, but after "New Coke", the "Classic Coke" never tasted the same.  They did something that's subtle, but different.  And I've never liked it.

Anyway, Blak has a really unusual flavor.  But about midway through the first bottle I decided I liked it well enough.  I'm not real sure about just belting it down on a hot day, but as I said, I think it would give Root Beer serious competition in an ice cream float.

DragonLady,

Hard to tell, but that's the same time they changed from sugar to corn syrup for sweetening.  The Mexican bottling company never started using the corn syrup and (I understand from some newspaper stories) there are stores in So.Cal. that sell Mexican-bottled coke in glass bottles at a premium for those who still prefer that taste.  Note that the Mexican bottling company isn't permitted to sell into the United States...wonder how that Mexican-bottled coke gets here? Grin Shocked Cool

I tried it the other day. It isn't bad, but it's not worth the price the local store is asking for it.

How much are they asking?  Huh Shocked We were getting for .99 cents for a 4/pack; but now AFAIK it's the same price as the regular Coke products.

The local store thinks it's worth $1.29 for a single little bottle.

That's highway robbery.  I wouldn't pay it, either.  Undecided

You're kidding!  I will occasionally buy one for $1.29 when I have to drive really early.  You know, like before 10 AM.

And I won't pay $4.99 for Frappucino.  I just make my own.  Boy.  Your retired old geezers must have more money than my retired old geezers.  Of course, mine are choosing to live in the Ozarks.

DH has confirmed it -it's just as expensive here.  I guess when we finish the stock we bought, that will be the end of it.  I won't pay $5.00 for it; when I can buy a 12-pack of something else for the same price.  Angry
