Better than Sex Cake

Better than Sex Cake
Well, a close second. This cake is reminiscient of those chocolate-oranges you get at Christmas. If you love them, and I do, you'll love this. Don't tell anyone it starts with a mix.

1 package (18.25 oz) devil’s food cake mix
1 1/3 cups freshly squeezed orange juice
½ cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
3 tsp finely grated orange zest
2 tsp Boyajian pure orange oil (accept no substitutions! seriously)

Preheat oven to 325 °F (163 °C). Grease and flour bundt pan.

Beat together eggs, zest, oil, and orange oil on medium speed. Add cake mix and orange juice. Beat on low speed one minute, scrape down bowl, beat an additional two minutes on medium.

Bake for about 40 minutes. Cool completely.

Glaze

Sift 2 cups of powdered sugar and mix with 3-4 tbsp orange juice. Mix in 1 tsp finely grated orange zest. Drizzle over cooled cake.

DH brought me most of the ingredients.  But he couldn't find "orange oil" anywhere.  He brought me orange extract.  Will that work, or should I just set everything aside 'till I can get to the city?

Orange extract isn't the same.  You will need to use a lot more of it.  Possibly 3-4 times as much.  Taste the batter and see how it tastes.  Experiment!  I've tried  orange extract but I honestly don't like it as well.  I've used a cheap brand of orange oil too and that sucked.  You should be able to find Boyajian in a gourmet store or a place like Williams Sonoma.

Okay; I'll try it with this, and see how it works.  Then I'll look for the orange oil next time I'm in Phoenix.  Smiley

I played with the formula a bit.

First, I used 1/4 cup vegetable oil, and 1/4 cup orange-flavored olive oil.  I used four teaspoons of orange extract, and almost twice as much zest -which I grated as finely as possible.  Finally, because the kids are adamant about having a cook out today, I made it into cupcakes.  I baked them at 350F for 25 minutes.

And they're great.  So far, I've only eaten three.... Grin

Only 3?  They sound a lot better than 3.

Well, I have to save some for the others.  Of course, nothing is stopping me from making another batch tomorrow.  And the next day.  Grin

Well, they were a hit.   Grin

I'll definitely have to look for the orange oil and try this again.  The batter tasted much more orange-y than the finished cupcakes, but they did taste like orange sticks.

Now, I have to figure out how to make a raspberry version. Smiley

If you want to push them a little further over the edge, make a chocolate ganache with a tsp or two of the orange oil to glaze them with.

Thanks!  Duh, lol  I should have recognized that name but I didn't think of infused oils.  I have used their brand of caviar many times... interesting.  I still haven't found anyone carrying this in Tucson, I committed plastic surgery last year and don't use it to make on line ( or any other purchases ) anymore.  Them lemon cookies look super too~  I'll have tto track down all their oils... I have lots of time to cook these days.
