Probably easier if everyone just brings either an individual dish, or a single ingredient for one shared recipe?

We used to do something similar at work - designate a day sandwich day or taco salad day, everyone brought something to go in or with the lunch.  It helps to have someone coordinate since you don't want 30 pounds of potatoes and nothing else for your soup.

My brother-in-law has taught grade school for 30 years.  He makes stone soup with his classes each year.  I think he assigns ingredients for the kids to bring - potatoes, carrots, onions, etc. - then they cut them up and cook them for lunch.
