Title: My last finished non-garment project Post by: DragonLady on March 21, 2006, 09:09:06 PM Since there aren't many forums left without
at least one topic, I figured I'd kick this one off. Let's see...the last one would be this laundry bag (http://realitycoffeeandhumblepie.com/hogwash.htm) I made for my daughter. I found the pattern in a book...I'll try to remember what it's called and post the name of it. (http://realitycoffeeandhumblepie.com/100_0059_thumb.gif) I've worked since then on two handbags. One is a soft-sculpture javelina -haven't gotten the pattern quite right for it. The other is a plain circle with a painted design on it. I finished the painting, but haven't put the bag together yet. I've made a few shirts and a couple pairs of pj's...but that's all the sewing I've done. I tend to spend so much time reading and planning projects and practising various techniques that I get burned out and just lose interest. Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: Liana on March 21, 2006, 09:19:09 PM This is just darling! It would make
such a cute purse in a slightly smaller size. I have a friend who's
really into pigs. She even has a Xmas tree completely decorated with
pig ornaments. I could see this in tapestry with Ultrasuede
hooves. Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: DragonLady on March 21, 2006, 09:21:57 PM It was supposed to be pink, with the striped
blue for trim...but as it turned out I was just a few inches short of
fabric, so I did it the other way 'round. I think it came out better
that way. 8) She loves it -instead of using it for laundry she uses it for an overnight bag. And I was really proud of myself for finding such a winner -it's hard to make anything a teenager is willing to be seen with. :) Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: fzxdoc on March 22, 2006, 05:23:33 AM Oooh, I want to see the javalina soft
sculpure handbag! I own an armadillo purse, made from the real
animal, which grosses many of my friends out. For some reason I get a
maternal feeling when I look at it, which makes me wonder what I was in a
former life, but I digress. Suffice to say that I love walking
around with small animals (usually faux) hanging off my shoulder
;). The piggie bag is adorable. I should have known your projects would be just as fun as you are, DL. I like the little feet and the happy smile. Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: DragonLady on March 22, 2006, 09:20:33 AM Quote from: fzxdoc on March 22, 2006, 05:23:33

Yeah; it's one of the things I do want to get right, and make up. I keep having trouble with it. Mostly because I've never really done soft sculpture, and trying to do my own patterns is still a bit of a learning curve for me. Quote:

which grosses many of my friends out. I collect handbags made of stuffed animals. Or, at least I'm trying to. But so far none of them are real animals -just toys. I saw the armadillo bag, and put it on my list, but now I'll have to double-check as I only want toys. My son wants a pet armadillo, and he would have a canary trombone if I brought home a dead one. is to have this cute piggy!!! The last bag I made was a bicycle bag to
cover the rear tire of my husbands bicycle!!! I draped the bag on the
parts of the bike that needed covering and used jolly red zippers to close
it up. Not my usual sewing project, but it did give a chance to use my
draping skills!!! Have just posted my latest non-garment project----two purple ironing board covers made from a Ralph Lauren cotton sheet. I have been searching for new ib covers forever and one day sat down and made my own!!! I've gotten LOTS of comments. Ladies who come to class here at AAF enjoy the river view while pressing. They would look wonderful in my new green sewing room. Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: Liana on March 31, 2006, 07:12:24 PM Ooh! I love those purple ironing board covers,
too! I need a new one, maybe I should do something
wild..... Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: appleannie on April 01, 2006, 05:14:12 AM Ooh! I love those purple ironing board covers, too! Thank you Mardel and Liana. Purple is my favorite neutral and these ib covers have certainly changed the energy in my space!!! And, they were so easy to make. I took the exisiting cover and used it as a pattern. My elna Pro 5DC--- classroom serger, still my favorite after 16 years, has a hole in the presser foot where I fed the string as I serged over it and the edges. Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: quidscribis on April 01, 2006, 06:12:50 AM We have got the most butt-ugly ib cover in
existence on planet earth. I'll have to think about re-covering it
someday to something a lot more bearable, and your purple is inspiration
worthy! :D Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: mardel on May 23, 2006, 07:09:28 AM OK, here is a picture of a little soft
sculpture kitty I just
finished: (http://restingmotion.typepad.com/photos/pointykitty/pointykitty1final3.jpg) You can see more photos here (http://restingmotion.typepad.com/photos/pointykitty/pointykitty1final1.html) You can also find the same pictures, plus more verbiage on my blog (http://www.sewdistracted.com/) Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: Lisa on May 23, 2006, 08:18:23 AM Mardel, I love your pointy kitty! (He
has that awkward kitten look to him that just melts my heart...) I bet your impending grandchild will grab (and love) all of those points too. Lisa Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: Liana on May 23, 2006, 11:21:28 AM Oh Mardel, He is just
darling!!! :) Your grandchild is going to love him, and
he is just very kittenly, too, and so sweet. I have to go read your
blog now. Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: mardel on May 24, 2006, 06:19:17 AM Thank you Liana and Lisa. He is
cute. I am happy that I get to keep him a few months, although I
never was much of a collector of stuffed animals. He is sitting on
my self peeking down at me as I sew. It is amazing how such a simple
thing can bring a smile. Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: fzxdoc on May 26, 2006, 03:30:58 PM Yup, Mardel, Lisa is right...that kitty is
perfect for a baby to grab. I can just envision one holding the
kitty by one ear while chewing on the other. Title: Re: My last finished non-garment project Post by: Natasha J on June 03, 2006, 12:47:15 PM I love the piggie bag. Since I LOVE
cats I really like the little kitty. As you can see from my pictures
below I also like purple! I made this using a Linda McGhee pattern. It's not a land animal but it is fun to carry. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/CatMed/fishpurse001.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/CatMed/fishpurse005.jpg) Stitcher's
