I like her idea of the waistband being added to shorten or lengthen the bodice, with the
option of using contrasting fabric, and LOVE that rayon fabric in the dress she's wearing.

You're welcome, karenDee.

Bev, I know == been slacking a bit .. ;)  Pretty hectic summer & I'm just starting to get into
catch up mode on theirs & other interesting sewing shows/videos.  I've found generally the
last year or so that many segments on this show are home dec, totes, more basic & simple
sewing projects that just aren't that interesting .. at least to me.  But I'll be back on the hunt,
hoping to find more interesting videos to post soon.

I didnt mean to be reproachful, which is how it sounds now  as I reread.  Hope you find the time to do your excellent summaries.   I really enjoy them and look forward to reading them.

I find a similar lack of inspiration on my PBS.  Told DH I was about ready to cancel cable.  We only have it so I can watch sewing TV on Sat mornings.  Sewing TV has degenerated into 3 consecutive quilting programs.  Then Sewng With Nancy was a quilting program the final half hour was a home dec episode.  I like to see some quilting and some home dec.  Some embroidery, some doll stuff. IOW a variety of fabric sewng activities with an emphasis on dressmaking.

I've always wished for equality in the availability of sports programs for my husband and sewing programs for me. Ain't gonna happen.  ;) ;D

Ditto, Kathryn!  But like you said, SDBev, the only ones we get here in WV are quilting shows - ad nauseum!    I do wish we could get one show that has to do with sewing apparel.  Where are you, Shirley Adams?

I've been thinking of doing away with cable also.  I've never seen such a horrible lack of good shows!   What are we paying $200.00 a  month for anyway?  Of course, that does include landline and internet, as well as TV cable, but I just can't see it any longer.

She retired.

My cable bill is calculated the same as yours (bundle cable, internet and phone).  I’m almost afraid to ask about change because the basic bill hasnt gone up  in at least 5 years. But I think I may need more bandwidth and Nancy Zieman is retireing -she is my reason for wanting cable in the first place- so it may be time for me to change.

Yes, I knew she had retired - but in a lot of ways, I got more out of her shows than most.  I did like Nancy's shows when they had to do with apparel sewing - but those got further and further apart.  I think everyone has given up sewing clothing for quilts and of course, Nancy is going to base her shows on what the majority seem to want.  Guess we garment sewists are just outnumbered!  Now she has retired and there is one fewer sewing teacher on PBS.

I attended a sewing expo at Chantilly, Va (actually a few of them) and Shirley taught at some of them.  One evening, I was at G Street at Centerville and Shirley was there with her DH doing what all of us do - given the chance - shopping for fabric!  I was picking out fabric for a Koos Van den Acker jacket and I remember she complimented my choices.

ETA:  Our cable bill keeps going up and up.  We bundled to save a little money.  We've been with cable for probably 30 or 40 years - however long it has been here.  I complain every time it goes up and they knock it down somewhat, but not all the way.  Irksome at best!

I was disappointed too. I understand why.  Nancy was making business decisions which reflect what I see even in my low population area. I am the only dressmaker in miles while there are several  quilters and a few weavers.  Even knitting is no longer popular — I’m seeing more knitting machines on the curb waiting for pick up.

I still  have all of Shirley Adams books a few I sourced on Ebay and Etsy.  I do think she was wonderfully creative and still inspiring me today.  Love Peggy’s broadcast for the same reason. Sometimes I watch Peggy and have to get up and go to the stash room.  Got to find something I can use right now!  On the next top I’m going to adapt Peggy’s hook and eye idea with some trim I’ve got downstairs.  That is if she doesnt show something even more exciting before I start.

Interesting segment with Linda Lee of The Sewing Workshop, using Tyvek, commercial/industrial/
construction material.

http://itsseweasytv.com/

This show will be available to watch on our website from December 15 - December 22

Hit the slopes in style. Designer and fabric expert Linda Lee uses a specialty fabric normally used
for envelopes and home insulation to make a warm, stylish ski vest. Then, put your feet up and
relax. Sewing educator Rebecca Kemp Brent captures vacation memories in a charming tuffet,
embellished with top-stitching.

I'd seen another video from a UK crafter that I can't find using candy wrapper foils, painting
them, then putting them under a heat gun or embosser gun and then you could sew/quilt
them.  They turned out incredibly rich and beautiful as the foil wrappers were the deep
royal colors.  Wish I could find it. The results are a bit like that of Texture Magic on fabric.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HDI5mY58ug

Found video using Tyvek, paint.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ec0ZlQlQ-U

and synthetic fabric results .. LOVE the blue bubbled fabric.  Would be an awesome
collar, sleeve, cuff accent, bodice etc feature.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cavSSTWXIg

This seems like the Tyvek texture fiber== Lutradur.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I7ngrIvOfk&list=PLpgwFc8r970pYToArfEc9b9KPbREP1Sn0

There are many videos on these pages using Tyvek other similar fiber names on the pages.
Fascinating.  Oh, for a large craft room.

Here's that video I couldn't initially find:

Thanks for posting the links and please keep it up.  My local PBS is wishy washy.  Sometimes posting new shows other times posting reruns I have seen so many times I have them memorized. Their ‘begging’ sessions have gone from annual to monthly. I have cable for PBS specifically Saturday Morning sewing shows.  Which seem to have all deteriorated into quilting shows.  Im beginning to talk to DH about cancelling. Your reminders are a ray of sunshine.

You're welcome, Bev... it is so disappointing.  Lost a major craft/sewing PBS channel
in my area, and with dear Nancy Zieman's passing, the pickings on TV are very slim.
Hopefully, some folks at existing PBS stations will realize the gap in the programming
we enjoy.

Channel surfing, this reminded me of Peggy Sagers great last webcast with Lora.
Saw this HSN offering.. trendy, simple, chic, casual or dressy layers.  Look at the
possibilities and the $$ we can save for summer wear with drapey knits because
we can learn how to fit and we sew. Could be a Great 8 foundation.

Thanks, Joy!  Those will be fun to watch.  The HSN video with the cardigans was interesting.  I’m not sure I’ve ever watched one before.  I hope I didn’t quit too soon, haha.  It reminded me that I have lots of knits for colorfully printed tees that I decided I wouldn’t really wear.  Some of them would be perfect for Peggy’s cardigan pattern.  As long as they don’t become too popular.  Such as what I liked least about my Prius way back when was that it was too difficult to find mine in the parking lot.

Martha (dig out those knits !!  ;)) and Bev, I'm really impressed with their
line because they're simple, classic garments, and we can so easily duplicate
them after we get the fit down.  If I come upon them channel surfing, they
always seduce me.  The fabric, according to the sites for drapey garments,
not the chiffon-ish, sheer jackets, is:

"Printed, lightweight jersey stretch knit" (scroll down)
i.e. https://www.hsn.com/products/slinky-brand-printed-drape-front-knit-jacket/8668597?variant=8668598

So many look/act like ITY knit to me, but I've not sewed lately with "lightweight
jersey stretch knit" so I'm kinda dumb about them. Wish they disclosed the fabric
composition.

They have lots of YouTube videos of their presentations, so many great ideas==snoop
shopping in your PJs.  They stress how unwrinkable and thin their pieces are .. that
you can roll them up, they fit in your hand and very packable/practical for travel.

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=hsn+slinky+brand&sp=EgIIAw%253D%253D

They also run a live stream of their actual broadcasts on their website:

https://www.hsn.com/

(Digging thru stash .. SOME day, spring will actually come ;) ?

Is there a connection between the brand name and Slinky fabrics?

~ ~ ~ ~

I don't know for certain, Martha, but doesn't seem to be connected to the fabric
we've known as slinky.  That fabric has weight, and my memory is that it contained
acetate in the composition.  Fabric technology has changed so much the last 10
or so years.  Some poly combinations today are fantastic, where before poly was
scorned. These Slinky Brand garments appear light, like ITY, most described as
lightweight jersey stretch knit.

I'm surprised to find they're also sold by/thru at Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/s/131-0330116-6046617?ie=UTF8&field-keywords=slinky%20brand%20fashions&index=blended&link_code=qs&sourceid=Mozilla-search&tag=mozilla-20

One offering:

https://www.amazon.com/Slinky-Brand-Jacket-Tanks-536-767/dp/B077LBP1NB/ref=sr_1_35?ie=UTF8&qid=1523980476&sr=8-35&keywords=slinky+brand+fashions

Fabric description: "This versatile jersey knit set offers four interchangeable pieces that can be dressed up or down"

And, of course they appear on eBay.

This week's It's Sew Easy TV

http://itsseweasytv.com/

This show will be available to watch on our website from April 27 - May 4

Change is in the air! Today's leading designers and sewing experts create

by upcycling, altering, embellishing and adding new twists.

Transform what's old into something new. Designer Angela Wolf upcycles
an ordinary sweater to make it new again. Then, she sews the sleeves and
the sides of the denim dress. Blogger and sewing teacher Joanne Banko
uses scarves and lightweight fabrics to create a flowing and fashionable
kimono-style blouse.

You are so right about that bell sleeve. Also I thought what a great save for  a sleeve if you don't have enough fabric or clipped where you shouldn't have ::)

men's shirt and adds ribbing and a zipper to create a trendy bomber jacket. Fashion
expert Angela Wolf adds cuffs to the denim shirt dress. Then, she creates a cozy

Add a little here and take a way a little there. Fashion re-creator Laura Pifer uses a
serger to make a cocoon jacket with batwing sleeves. Pattern designer Angela Wolf
finishes the denim shirt dress project with a rolled hem. Fabric designer and illustrator
Felice Regina adds style and charm to clothing and accessories with border prints.
