...tired of seeing new cold shoulder patterns.   .... Lately I see them everywhere here and most of them fit poorly and look rather off.
Cant say Im enthused either.  This was one of those trend I tried so many years ago I hate to admit it.  I was young and interested in all the trends. Now I know I will spend my time fussing and pulling at the detail.  Hate fussing with my clothing.

I really like the cold shoulder look and the many variations available.  I've worn the style frequently and find myself attracted to the new patterns but then I've always liked sleeveless garments in the summer time since I don't tolerate heat well at all.  For some reason I feel very elegant in the cold shoulder look.

I agree with you, Debby, on cold shoulders.  I only have one, a long dress I purchased for my 50th college reunion two years ago.  It worked very well for the festivities and then I wore it to a dinner party the next week.  I knew no one there and somehow I felt the dress was empowering.  Silly me!

That's interesting vtmartha!  I bought one for my 50th class reunion last year and it was my power dress...

If a style is empowering for you, then you should wear it all the time !
Well, perhaps not in a Vermont horse barn, but the rest of the time  ;D

Goodness, I wouldn't be able to relax for a micro-second in some of those Vogue patterns, even using yards of bra tape.
Precarious summer glamour indeed.
The Marcy Tiltons are a welcome relief ;D

The only one that rings my chimes is the Kathryn Brenne dress that can be worn frontways-back or backways-round:

I wanted to like that Tilton top with the weird adhesions, but it was just trying too hard for my taste.

That one reminds me of the vintage Butterick Walk away dress (I think that's what it was called).

Yes, you’re right Linda, and it did me too.
That pattern is a ‘retro’ re-issue.

That's the first thing I thought of as well, Lisanne and Linda. Apparently, the vintage Butterick has one skirt flared and the other straighter.

Brenne's design is more modern with an A-line silhouette. I'm not sure how it would fit and whether it would shift around in the wearing. A wearable muslin would be in order should I choose to make it.

Don’t know why I missed this when we were discussing the summer Vogues.
I think even I (minimal bust) would find 9306 uncomfortable and oddly proportioned

Can't say that I find this one attractive at all.

Fzxdoc- "just trying too hard" is a perfect way to express what I often find to be true with some of the new patterns.

I want to see this big bow one IRL:

There's one review on Patternreview of this pattern but it's in a busy print and I can't tell if it has the big bow or not. It looks like the smaller tie.

I like the look of the one in Patternreview on the woman who made it. I'd have to make it without the puffy sleeve bits, I think, were I to try it. I prefer a more pared down look. There's a lot going on with this view of the 3-view pattern

But I'm thinking that big bow would look either really cool or maybe not so much. Usually I'm better at envisioning IRL renditions of patterns than I am for this one.

Yes Linda - none of us are commenting on those Butterick patterns.
They can't win, we either complain the patterns are too peculiar, or that there's nothing new.

I think the indies have it easier these days.  So long as they can find a group of people who share their style, they can just follow their own inspiration without trying for 'something for everyone'.

Though perhaps we do still need to turn to Butterick for 'classics'.

Tend to agree.  By the time one gets to my age, it seems there is hardly anything new to see in the pattern world.  So often, I look at patterns and say, I've got something similar in my stash--which goes back to the 60's (and then there are the vintage 40's patterns I collected for a while).  All things old become new again....................

The new Vogue patterns aren't up on the website yet, but the new patterns magazine was out at my local JoAnn's today.

There's a new jacket from Julio Cesar that features multiple fabrics and trims, a classic flared skirt and shoulder princess jacket suit, some other interesting jackets, and a couple of dresses that might tempt me if I had need of dresses.

But my favorite look is a Katherine Brenne shirt with two collar variations and some interesting pleated sleeves that add interest but aren't fluffy and pouffy. There are pleat and button details in the bodice as well. That one I'll probably buy and actually make ...

There are few patterns in the new Vogue magazine that I like as well, angelsweb.

I wonder why they're not up on the website. I just checked.
