Bev, how you just happened to have the perfect fabrics to showcase that embroidered neckline piece speaks to the depth of your stash. Hooray! Because they work perfectly together. I really love the way this ensemble looks on you. Congrats on doing such a nice job of hunting/gathering and sewing!

Melinda, that is such a cute fabric--no wonder your daughter fell in love with it. I liked it so well I ordered some in mint green for a baby dress for my granddaughter. So thanks for the inspiration!

You really did such a beautiful job on that jacket. I like your changes to the pattern instructions (lining and interfacing certain areas) to make the jacket beefier and better made. Can you share the welt pocket insertion link, if there is one? Your pockets are so perfect.

I bet your daughter's face lit up when she saw that jacket. I hope you got a big well-deserved hug.

Melinda - what a great present and surprise for your daughter.  And what a professional job you did!    Fzxdoc, how did I miss commenting on all those cute cute grandkid projects - the embroidery alone is too adorable.  How much fun must you be having getting to sew for her.  Can't wait to see how the baby dress turns out in the Melinda-inspired fabric. Bev, I am still marveling over how you managed to spot, grab and then adapt that neckline piece.
Thank you all for the wonderful inspirations.

You can download the instructions for the jacket here https://jalie.com/product_printing_guide/3675.pdf The welts are actually a part of the pocket piece, rather than a welt with a pocket.

I did indeed, and so far everyone has loved her new jacket.

I hope your grandkids enjoy the penguins as much as my daughter does!  I spent quite a bit of time going between the grey and mint versions, and only ended up with the grey as I had purchased a different fabric on a mint base just prior to that.

The eye candy here is wonderful.

I finished a doll's Edwardian party dress and it was a good beta test. The only things I would do is better finishing that was recommended on the waistband and to add 1/8" more to the back seam for the snaps to be on rather than on the main fabric. Easier to hide the hand stitches.

I did change up the skirt and I love how it turned out. I could only purchase lace trim that was just under 6" in width and I wanted the skirt to be 8" long prior to hemming and stitching it onto the waistband. I will be making a flower crown to wear with it.

Nice work on that dress, Ann. Do you belong to a doll group or club? Do you sell what you make for dolls? Or do you just sew for dolls for the pure pleasure of it?

Kathryn, I belong to a few groups on Facebook, Raverly, and one other one. I also talk to a lady who lives 90 minutes from me and she is encouraging me to sell my doll clothes. I am beta testing patterns so I know which ones will work the best to sell through an Etsy shop.

I am finding that being a perfectionist is holding me back on selling. I have a good leggings pattern for two different dolls, a couple of tops, a dress and now this one. Knitting is harder as I knit tighter than most people and have to test every pattern to make sure my tension is correct. I have a sweater I have to photograph, cut off the buttons and toss as it is just too small. I will knit it again on larger needles.

The other thing I am working on is sewing/knitting ensembles. It is a lot more work but it is what most doll collectors want. Having a sweater, leggings, hat, and purse will sell faster than just a sweater and leggings.

Thanks for the additional information, Ann. You do such nice work with the doll clothes you make, that I wondered whether you were gearing up for a business. After all, you were so successful making rodeo outfits and gowns for rodeo queens for many years; it shouldn't take long before you're at the top of your game in making and selling doll ensembles. You're so talented.  Kudos to you.

Here is the sweater I finished knitting. I still have to knit a hat and purse plus sew white leggings. I have switched from knitting with wool to acrylic and it isn't as nice but it is what everyone knits with for sale. Allergies.

My favorite part is the shoes.

So cute! That sweater is so intricate, Ann. What size needles do you use to get such good stitch definition with what I'm assuming is acrylic fingering weight yarn?

It is a DK/sport weight yarn. I used 4 mm needles. The pattern is daisy chains and is only 4 to the pattern. I had fun knitting it.

That doll outfit is cute! The sweater is great, with those leggins and YES! the shoes. It seems fiddly to knit such a small sweater...

Melinda, I just love the bomber jacket. Great fabric. Beautiful daughter.  :)

For my next project I plan to make a skirt from an Aztec patterned woven fabric I purchased in Spain. Read more here... https://seedesignmake.com/design-it-an-aztec-style-patterned-skirt/

Edwardian outfit #2 is done. This past week we made a Ramble (walking suit). It was a more difficult pattern and had poor directions. I slugged my way through it making mental notes on it. Have to write them down for another time.

Laura is grumpy as her boots hurt her feet. They are just too small for her.

I know I will make the skirt again (redoing the pattern so it is easier to follow) as I want to knit a twin sweater set to go with it.

Week 3 of the Edwardian Summer Sew Along. This week we had to make a swimsuit with wrap around skirt. I enlarged the pattern to 107% of the original size just for the swim suit. I also lengthened the body by 2". The skirt I left as is.

Laura is enjoying being the model of the Edwardian clothing. She hunted around and found the hat I had made 2 summers ago to celebrate Canada Day. She said she should go to the beach on July 1.

Ann, seeing your new creations for your dolls with your descriptions always brings a smile to my face. What fun you're having. When you think back on all the sewing you've done for yourself, your daughter, and your clients over the years, it must be so enjoyable to enter this phase of sewing as well. You get to use your imagination for the backstory and your creativity for interesting and often challenging little garments.

Continue to enjoy this new path that your hobbies of sewing and knitting have led you to. I'm enjoying seeing your doll's wardrobes and hearing the stories behind each piece.

This ensemble is one of my favorites. You did a wonderful job with it.

Thank you ladies for the kind words on Laura's outfits. She is blushing. I am enjoying this journey and having a lot of fun. I was chosen as a tester for doll clothes. I have to make an outfit a month of one of many patterns that are to be released. I am looking forward to doing this. The hardest part is choosing a pattern to test.

Ann, those doll clothes... really great. What a fun sew along! But difficult to get patterns for?! Anyway, I was thinking how nice it is (amongst other reasons) to live in our time - I can wear pants when going on a walk/hike... Nevertheless, the suit is wonderful and wonderfully detailed. As is the bathing suit outfit - especially the bathing suit. Are those Laura's beach shoes? Guess flip-flops weren't invented yet...  :D

I, too, appreciate the times we live in as we have such a variety of clothing we can wear.

For the sew along, we get a pattern a week to sew so everyone does the same outfit. The shoes fit in with what the ladies wore at that time but were a part of the outfit the doll was wearing when I bought her.

Two more Dress a Month dresses, made from the Lodo Dress pattern from True Bias. Both are cut as a straight size 8. The first is a cotton knit, very thin and the second is a heavier, drapier slinky knit.

Thank you Annette, Beansfads, LynnH and Ann for the compliments on the simple dresses I made. I was testing the pattern for some fabric that needs simple lines to show off the print. I have decided that the Lodo Dress pattern will not do for the print I have in mind, but it was fun to make up a couple of dresses using it.

There are two unusual sewing methods that are recommended in the instructions of the Lodo Dress pattern. First, one is to use woven fabric for the neckline and armhole facings, and secondly, one is to topstitch (an inch from the edge) from the wrong side of the fabric. I had never used either of these methods in all my years of sewing knits, and was quite skeptical. In fact, I almost ignored both. But I tossed caution to the wind, followed the instructions exactly, and it worked perfectly. Imagine that!

That's the best thing about sewing, always learning something new. :)
