How-to for a slip?

Hi from snowbound DC area -
My little 4-yr old daughter has a slightly sheer dress - I am tempted (because of snowbound plus a little time pressure before an event) to draft and make a simple slip for her just with muslin. But slips are different from when I was little, in the 1960's. I remember batiste, and adjustable straps, but I don't know how full it was to fit over the head or pull up, etc. I should probably wait and do it right, with a real pattern and stretch material. Please let me know if any of you have some advice on it . . .thanks

If you have a tank or cami pattern that fits her (woven, not knit), you can just make it longer. And use cotton or nylon, whatever is available until our snow melts in June. I live in Alexandria

Way back in the stone ages, when I was a little girl, my grandma made my underslips. They were very similar to a tank top, but of course were longer. She made my winter slips out of wonderful flannel. They helped keep me warm, of course. I don't think she made them on the bias, either. So, I would think that a nice cotton fabric, and a tank top pattern, and you're in business.
