I know most have horizontal and/or vertical blinds but I am interested in making room darkening/thermal window shades....Ive found material to make the shades from but cant find the roller/base...

anyone have a source?

I made several of these and just bought run of the mill roller and took off the stock blind and stapled on my own. The one in my sewing room has lasted for 10 years. In fact, I just took it down because the roller sprung after 10 years.

good idea...   I guess I will do that since it does seem like the easiest way to handle it

Here is a source of roller shade kits.
These have a clutch with bead chain loop to raise and lower.
It is easy to put together and operate.
