I've searched around the 'net for a machine embroidery "book worm".  I thought I saw one a few months ago, but can't find it again.  Any suggestions?

I don't know what a "towel topper" is but I have to say it looks rather rude.

A towel topper is a bizarre item that you can decorate to attach to your kitchen towels to hang them from cabinet handles, etc.  You can probably knit them, crochet them, quilt them and obviously embroider on them.  eh, whatever.
I think that is the one I found.  Thanks.  But not that I'm looking at it, I don't like it as much.  Too childish for me, I think.  I'm going to make a Kindle cover (I've had enough of poorly fitting items and bad elastic for a while) and I want to put a literary theme on the front.  I found one from Urban Threads but it may be a bit too far on the otherside.

Maybe you just want a literary motif?  you know, more Jane Austen or Shakespeare than HP lovecraft?  I love the idea of kindle covers too.  Maybe check etsy for inspiration?

That one is better, Karent.  Maybe... And I'll do a search around for literary ideas.
I do have this one:   from http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/Products.aspx?Catalog=Emblibrary&ProductID=D6793  and I do like it.  But it's big.  I suppose there's nothing keeping me from making more than one, is there?  I bought a Butterick pattern for it ($2 at JA's yesterday.  I wouldn't draft one for $2).  I bought one but it's so large it makes it too large to slip in my purse.  JA's also had some faux suede in a light brown and I'm using a silky home dec for the inside - also from JA's.  My total cost, if I buy a new design for about $5 will be around $15, $10 if I use a freebie or one I already own.

I dunno, BeeBee, that dragon is awfully cute but there's something about the horror design that I love. Sick mind, maybe?

I know, Denise.  The horror was a (temporarily) free design from Urban Threads, and the one I have is in color, not just b/w.  And I do love me a good scarey book.
And I found this one, too.  But it may be too large.
from Embroidery library.  But it's also pretty big.

I didn't see it there, Pina. They may shift the designs around.

Are you talking about this one: Bookworm 1, or maybe this one: Bookworm 2?

Kathryn, you are right, they move the free designs around.I found my book worm on page one,row eight, third design
here. The search engine showed only book worms they have for sale, not the free one.

That's such a cute one, Pina! I didn't realize that you were talking about the Free Designs on that site. They have some other nice ones as well. I sometimes order designs from them, although they can be pricey compared to my fav, www.emblibrary.com. They do often bundle extra designs in with an order, though, which is nice

Embarrassed  I did, but I weaseled out and used geometric design (just a set of concentric cirlces).  For 2 reasons: (1) size.  All the designs I had were really big or even too big for the Kindle front cover (2) thread colors.  I didn't have what I needed for any of the ones I wanted to use and I didn't want to go out.
I'm not real happy with my result, though.  It puckered the fabric quite a bit.  I'd sort of ironed on the stabilizer, then "fixed" the stabilizer to the fabric (stitched around it) and it looked ok until I removed the hoop, then it puckered.  And project is stalled for need of the correct closure (see your magnetic clasp question in another thread  Wink).  So I pieced a quilt.

Sigh, BeeBee, and I so loved that dragon design.  But c'est la vie. You bring up a good point about magnetic closures and Kindles. I'm even afraid to put my cell phone or iPod in my purse pocket that has a magnetic closure. Am I paranoid or what???

BeeBee,the book worm I posted is small,3" x 2 1/4",but I used 10 different colors.BTW,I ruined an ATM card by accidently touching it with my magnetic bracelet.

I splurged on a gorgeous leather case for my Palm when I bought it years back.  It has a magnetic closure which hasn't caused any problems.   The machine is so dated now, it's time to move on, but I do love the case.  Wink

Don't dispair, you'll see that dragon yet.  As for closures, I'm thinking a LARGE plastic snap or velcro or maybe even just a tie (probably not the tie, I don't like dangly thingies)

Now THAT may be the one!  I love that and am heading over to UT now.  Very cute.  I was just over there looking at the new stuff, but missed this.

Doesn't UT have the best ideas!  I wish I needed a Mardi Gras mask.  Their free Valentine design may be the perfect inaugural project for my new machine.  Oh, I wish I didn't always have so many 'great ideas'.  Wink  The bookish owl is perfect, I think.

That is so cute!  I looked all over that site for you BeeBee when you first posted about this and did not see this one.  I think I need to update my search skills.

This is the most adorable one I have seen!

Bernina has a few free downloads on thier Inspiratons site. You would need to convert them as they are .art files as a rule.

BeeBee, I'm glad you like that "Word" Owl from UT. When I saw it there, I immediately thought of you.

It's so doggone adorable that I may just have to purchase a Kindle too so I can make a embroidered cover for it with that design! Grin

Are you getting an iPad Martha? I'm envious! I've been trying to rationalize getting one ever since Steve Jobs made the announcement!  I'm thinking the 2nd generation might be better, since I tend to hold on to electronics for several years before upgrading.  But I may not be able to hold out.

Enjoy that iPad, you lucky ducky! Smiley

I'm not sure yet, Kathryn, but I can't use an iPhone with ATT successfully where I live and I've been putting off purchasing a Touch to see what the iPad brought.  It doesn't have everything but I'm usually an 'early adopter' when it comes to electronics even though I, too, keep my computers for years.  We shall see.  They can't be purchased yet anyway.

That came out really well, Kathryn!  I appreciated all your blog tips about how you removed the pocket and 'enlarged' it for the purpose of embroidery as I plan to embroider some lab jacket pockets for DH.
