Using Silk organza as straight seam binding

Ive looked in JoAnns & Hancocks for seam binding & have come up empty.....   I stumbled upon http://artisanssquare.com/sg/index.php/topic,3843.0.html thread and am now looking for help.....   





I purchased silk organza......  so now what??    I just need to cut a strip from the selvage??  Im making Simplicity 2598 View D. E

wash it and then what??   how do I use it as seam binding?

I just soak it in a tub of tepid water and hang it over the shower curtain.  Then steam iron.  It dries quickly.  Some people press it dry with no steam.

Cut your strip and use in seam line.  It is stable and not the least noticeable.

Sorry, I did not see that you want to use it as a seam binding.  Do you want to do a Hong Kong finish?  If so, cut your strip about 1 1/4 in. sew to edge of seam allowance at about 1/4 in. with right sides together.  Then press and flip it over the edge and stitch in the ditch.  This makes a nice seam finish.

I was gathering all of the notions & could not find straight seam binding and it was suggested here that I use silk organza instead..... so my question is, how do I do that??   just cut it in strips?   I dont have a clue

Looking at the pattern, are you making it out of a knit?  If so, the only place that might use a stabilizer is in the shoulder seams.  In this case, you cut a piece of the organza on the selvage the length of the seam and about 3/4" wide and then lay it along the seamline and stitch through both layers of fabric and the organza.  It is simply to keep the shoulder seam from growing down to your elbow...

There are several reviews of this pattern on pattern review.  I goggled Simplicity 2598 and they came up.
