Copy the "Address (URL)", for Chrome choose "Copy image URL", I don't recall the specifics for Firefox & Safari, but they're similar. When you have the image url, come back here to your editing window & put your cursor where you want the picture, click on the "insert image" button (2nd row, 2nd button above the editing window) which will get you the img tags--then paste the image url you copied between the tags.

That's it. You'll be able to see the image when you Preview or Post.

With Flickr, it's even easier. Flickr disabled right-click on images on its site, so that you can't use the "usual" method from the previous paragraph (they want you to direct link only when you also link back to them). But they provide you with a code string that will do all of that and already includes the tags you would otherwise need to add using the buttons above the editing window. Here's how to get your image from Flickr:

1. Go to you image's page & click "Share this" (above the image)
2. Click "Grab the HTML/BBCode Link" which will open a pop-up window
3. Click the radio button next to BBCode near the bottom of that pop-up window (to get the BBCode you need, instead of the HTML code that this forum can't use)
4. Use the drop-down menu to choose the size you want (to preview sizes, go back to the image's page & click "Actions" (above the image), then "View all sizes")
5. Copy the code in the box labeled "Copy & paste the code below"

then come back to your editing window here, put your cursor where you want the image and paste the code.

That's it! When you do that, you'll get this:

I'm trying to get my tickler to show in the signature box. I just get the link to show and not the picture from tickerfactory.com. I can do picture links to my posts but can't seem to get this one to work. Honest, I've searched for this in this forum but can't find it. Is there something special that I have to do? They have several links and I've tried them all. BTW, I did get lots of good info reading through this forum. Thanks!

You've only got part of the code you need. The format should look like this:

You've got the URL FOR THE PAGE AT THE TICKER FACTORY...when I go to that page, I see your ticker. You need to grab the url for the image itself. To do so, right click on the ticker, then grab the image url. For IE, click "properties", then copy the "URL (Address)," for Chrome, click "Copy image url", for Firebox, click "Copy image location"...I don't recall what the procedure is for Safari, but it would be similar. When you have the image url, come back here and paste it where I have IMAGE URL FOR YOUR TICKER in the format.

Here's how to do it step by step:

1. Click the "Insert Hyperlink" button (2nd row, 3rd button above the reply window). Then in the opening url tag, add "=" before the closing bracket in the opening url tag, and the page url (what you used) immediately after it. It will look like this:

2. Put your cursor between the url tags and click the "insert image" tag (2nd row, 2nd button above the reply window) which will then look like this:

3. Put your cursor between the img tags and Paste the image url that you got from right clicking on your ticker. When I do that with the image url I got from right-clicking on the ticker I saw when I clicked on your link, I get this:

which will get me this:

Finally, because the signature box for the profile doesn't allow you to preview your results, it can be useful to use a reply window on a thread to edit the text you want in your siganture. Use the preview window to see if you're getting what you want, then copy the text, use your back button so that you won't post your reply, then go to your profile and paste the text you worked out in your signature.

Hi Terry - let's see if I can help you get your avatar set up in your profile.

First thing - you need to be using a small photo size. If it is too large it will not be accepted (voice of experience here.) It took me several tries. Each time I reduced the size/quality of the photo until it was accepted.

So I suspect that is probably where to start looking.

Lynn's right, that your avatar image must be small. No more than 150 pixels wide and 250 pixels tall! You'll find other details about how to insert an avatar "here." Please let us know if you're still have trouble. It can be helpful to let us see the image you're using. Just post it here in a reply.

I'm having a problem that I don't know how to fix. When I link to a Flickr photo, it shows up twice on the page, even though I've copied and pasted the BBCode just once. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. See below.

Deb - I'm noticing a extra bracket in your post. ] and websites hate unaccompanied brackets.

Try going back to Flicker and making sure that you copied the entire contents of the BBC. When I scooped up your version to get Flicker, it was less than what I could copy when I started at Flicker.

If you look closely, you will see that the first line was repeated when you put it into your post above. It may not have been you. It could have come up squirrely on the Flickr site when you selected the BB code. Usually you only need to click on that BB code in the box once and copy it. One click usually selects the entire code.

Give it another try. Beautiful coat, BTW. When I insert your code into this post, I get the same thing that Lynn did:

It looks like you tried three different sets of code. I think I can see at least some of the things that went wrong.

And they're "fixable"

1. In the first two two attempts you used code from Flickr, but unfortunately, you used the html code instead of the BBCode. This board can't use HTML.

2. You added img tags and/or url tags around the code from Flickr. When you get the BBCode (instead of the HTML) from Flickr, it will already incorporate the tags you need. You won't need to use the buttons above the reply window at all when posting images from Flickr.

3. In the last two, when you didn't use the Flickr code, you used the page url for your image, instead of the image url. So when the board's software tried to pull your image, it wasn't there!

You'll know you have the image url if it end in ".jpg". The last one is the closest to correct if you weren't using Flickr (which has disabled the "right-click" that is otherwise the easiest way to get the image url.

In general, the formatting you want is:

[url=PAGE URL][img]IMAGE URL[/img][/url]unfortuantely the fourth attempt used the PAGE URL both where it belonged AND where the IMAGE URL should have been.

Here's what you want to do:

a. Go to the image page, and click the "Share this" button over the image, and from the drop-down menu click "Grab HTML/BBCode, which will open a pop-up window.

b. Click the radio button next to "BBCode" near the bottom of the window.

c. Choose the size you want from the drop-down menu. If you need to preview sizes, go back to the image page, choose "Actions" & then "View all sizes" from the drop-down menu.

d. Copy the code from the box, then come back here and past it in your reply window. Don't use any buttons to add tags to this code. It doesn't need it. When you do that, you'll get this:

Thanks, Lisa, for your help. I finally got my tickler in my signature box. It only took over a month of various attempts! That's just me. Your directions were excellent, but every letter had to be very precise. Geez, I'd rather sew, but I kept trying.
