trying to post picture that is on Flickr

Help.......... I'm not getting "properties" to come up on Flickr.  What am I doing incorrectly?  thanks!

Hi Hilda!

Flickr decided (fairly recently) that they wanted to enforce their policy requiring that all direct-linked photos link back to Flickr.  They've disabled right-click for properties. ::) :P  You weren't doing a thing wrong.  However they've made it easy to get the code you need to show your picture and to provide a link back to them. :)

I see that you tried two different methods.  The first one didn't work because the url you used was for the page the image was on, instead of the image itself.  I'm guessing that you tried it since you couldn't get the image url (since Flickr disabled "right-click", "properties", etc. so that you couldn't easily get to the image url).

Your second effort was so close! :)   You used the new Flickr procedure to get the code, but didn't click the radio button at the bottom of that pop-up window to get the BBCode you need for this board.  So you ended up with HTML code which this board can't use instead of the BBCode you needed!

For others, the procedure to direct-link from Flickr is:

1.  Click the "Share this" button above the image on the image's page,
2.  Click "Grab HTML/BBCode" which will open a pop-up window,
3.  Click the radio button near the bottom of the window next to BBCode,
4.  Choose the size you want from the drop down menu (to preview the sizes, go back to the image page, click the "Actions" button above the image, then "View all Sizes")
5.  Copy the code from the little window, then bring it back here and past it in your editing window.  Note that you don't need to use any of the buttons above the window.  Flickr has already included the tags you need!

That's it!  When you do that, you'll get this:

Please give it another try!  :pinkpom: :pinkpom:

I cannot get a new avatar photo to save.

I've tried from my computer. When I "open" it does not appear.
When I use the url from my flickr site, it DOES appear but doesn't show up on my posts.

I've tried doing this in firefox, google chrome, AND explorer.

I'd like to use this photo.

Thanks for help and suggestions.

ETA: And now my blog link isn't appearing either. Bah!

ETA 2: Got the photo to show up using a flickr image. But I still don't see my blog posted.

Lisa - check here where Dragon Lady describes how to add a blog as part of the signature.

In short - edit your Profile, select Forum Profile Information, and type the information in as part of the Signature.

Trying to post a link to a photo on flickr - first time - not sure what I am doing wrong.

How to get the url for a picture if you use a PC (instead of the url for the web page the picture is on):  Put your cursor on the picture whose url you want, and right click. This will give you a drop-down menu--choose "Properties."  You will need to copy the entry under "Address (URL)."  You can do that most easily by putting your cursor on that entry, holding the "Ctrl" key down while hit the letter "A" (this will highlight the entire URL, which may be to long to all show...), then the letter "C" (which will copy the URL).  When you come back to your edit window, you can paste the URL you've copied by holding the "Ctrl" key down and hiting the "V" key to past the URL text where you need it.

I don't see "properties" when I right-click.  It shows a box and says "grab the url", so I copied and pasted the URL that showed in the box.

I don't see "properties" when I right-click.  It shows a box and says "grab the url", so I copied and pasted the URL that showed in the box.
You're right!  Flickr has (in the fairly recent past) made a change to make sure that people comply with their usage guidelines which require that directly linked images provide a link back to Flickr.  So they've disabled "right-click" "Properties" on their site.  (What you're doing will work on other sites, however! :))  When they made that change, they set up a mechanism to provide the code you need here.

So here's what you do...go back to the page with your image, then:

1. Click the "Share this" button over the image, which will open a small window,

2. Click "Grab the HTML/BBCode"

3.  Click the "radio button" next to "BBCode" near the bottom of the small window (otherwise you'll get HTML code which this forum can't use).

4.  Use the drop-down menu to choose the size of image to share. (If you need to preview the available sizes before choosing, go back to the image page, click "Actions" & "View all sizes.")

5.  Copy the code from the box, come back here and paste it into your reply window.  Note that because Flickr has included the img & url tags in the code they supply to you, you don't need to use any of the buttons above the reply window when you paste that code here! :)

For your image, the code looks like this when I choose the "Medium 500" size:
Code: [Select]
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/pjsews/5402455805/][img]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5015/5402455805_9e4e9a4760.jpg[/img][/url]

which will (when you "Preview" or "Post") get you this:

Cape 013011 by pjsewingal, on Flickr

Please give it another try! :pinkpom:  And let us know if you have questions!

Hi Gaileen!

Can you show me the photo you're uploading?  You'll find information about adding an avatar here.

Often the image is too large...or isn't a file type that this board will support.  If you can show me the image, I'll check those things for you. :)

We could do that...but it would be even easier if you have the image up on a web site?  If so, just give me a link to the photohosting site.  (If you don't have a photohosting site, let me recommend that you get one--you'll want to show us images of things you sew! ;) ;D  Flickr is popular here (a basic account is free), but there are others that are also good for direct linking images as well.  Like PBase, Photobucket, Smugmug, etc.

Let me know if you need to e-mail!

Paula

Hi Paula!

When I "grabbed the code from the box, it gave me two lines of code.  The second line starts exactly the same as the first, but the remainder of the code in the second link links the Flickr title of your image back to the Flickr page (& adds your Flickr user name) instead of linking the image back to the Flickr page.

Did you perhaps delete the second line of code, thinking that you had pasted twice?  If not, tell me how you got the code you used...and we'll figure it out!  :huggle:

Hi Jane - if you are trying to get the flicker photo to post here, try these instructions:
In Flicker, one your photo to share select Share This
Select Grab the HTML/BBCode
Change the radio button selection so that it is for BBCode
Select your photo size
Copy the contents of the box
Paste it here

You can elect to delete the second line of copied text if you don't like looking at it.   ;D

Enjoy

I'll try again

http://www.therainshed.com/zippers.htm

You're close!

1.  Highlight the word you want to be "clickable" and then click the "insert hyperlink button" (3rd button in the second row above the editing screen).  You'll get this:
Code: [Select]
[url]clickable[/url]
2.  Add an "=" sign inside the first url tag so it looks like this:
Code: [Select]
[url=]clickable[/url]
3.  Then copy the url you want the clickable word to take you to, and paste right after the "=" sign.  If I wanted the link to go to Google, it would look like this:
Code: [Select]
[url=www.google.com]clickable[/url] which, when you preview, will give you this:

clickable

Be sure to preview and check that your link works and goes where you want it to! ;) ;D

Give it a try! :pinkpom:
