I would like to join this contest please.
I'm not very good at the computer stuff but I can only improve - like my sewing!
Do I have to do anything else?

New to the forum. How do I enter, just by saying "Hey I wanna join the fun?" This seems like so much fun and I"m excited about putting together my own little collection.

What is the stance on refashioning a garment?  I don't have a real "before" photo- the dress was white, and I dyed it and then thought to take pictures.  And before dying, cut the skirt off.  I did take pictures of the top as it was and measurements of the fabric and such- what needs to happen for me to use it in SWAP?

For this contest, it doesn't have any special rules.  Just make sure you have the right number of finished items, and that you've met all the other criteria.

Uh, I'm kind of embarrassed to ask, because surely it's in here somewhere, but........what are the dealines/dates? I'm going to feel silly if it was actually in the first post and I missed it, but I didn't see it. I'm checking to see if I actually have time to jump in or if I would just be struggling and frustrated with trying to finish by the end of the month (or whenever it is). Thanks!

Also, does anyone have any ideas of embellishments to add to a man's wardrobe? I might be doing this for my husband, seeing as I need to make him a wardrobe anyway. Smiley

Welcome to SWAP SewRusty! I don't think you are too late, the deadline for finishing is "garments must be finished by April 30th, 2010" (it was in the very first post, but there is sooo much information there it is easy to miss some).

For embellishing mens clothing the first two things that come to mind is possibly some "pickstitching" a heavy running stitch used in a decorative way, or maybe some subtle embroidery like Carol has done on one of the shirts for her husband. (look in her "Grant Will Dress Like an Adult and Wear Shoes SWAP") I don't know if your husband wears decorative T-shirts, but if he does, you could dome some freezer paper stenciling to add some interesting motif...

Thanks, IndigoTiger! I was afraid of that being the case when I asked when the dates were. LOL! And since the date is the same as our anniversary, it should be easy to remember! Wink

I was thinking, if I did this for my hubby, it would be business casual clothing (for work)--however--if it's allowed, what about having someone embroider his name on a shirt? I don't have an embroidery machine of my own, but a lady in town does--I could have her put it on, assuming that would be allowed? If not, I might try the pickstitching thing...my handstitching is so horrible though that it may be more of a detriment than an embellishment!  Grin

I've already said that using pre-embroidered fabric would be okay, so I can't see why this would be an exception.  However, I would prefer to see you at least give it a try, as the emphasis of the contest is on sewing skills.  I'll bet if you tried you could hand-embroider a small amount of script and it would turn out beautifully.
