Carole, I love the fabric you used for the top -- sorry you're not happy with the cowl. I'm especially sorry since I just walked in the door with the pattern!

Liana,
So nice to see your recent project and know you'll get lots of wear out of the darling fleece vest.
Carole,
The top colors are lovely on you and i like this pattern very much. Of course I can't see the neck problem you're referring to, so you must have solved the situation.
Myrna,
We'll be anxious to see you in your new garment.

It looks fabulous on you. Wonderful colors and pattern to that fabric.

LOL - me too Karen. I'm ready to sew the buttons on but have an appointment this afternoon so not until later. Here's a detail of them and an image of the front pattern after I divided for the pleats before cleaning up the edge. I'll blog in more detail next week - hopefully with a positive conclusion. - Myrna

Carole, the top looks terrific on you, even if you did have to tack the collar down. Myrna, I love the top you are making. It will be really fun to wear. It's going to be bitter cold tonight - I don't know what I did before fleece, which insulates and breathes so well.

Carole that print is GREAT and agree looks wonderful on you! When I've had a top that did that I stitched the cowl seam down to the body of the top, close as possible to edge of seam allowance (which was serged so not very wide anyway). Then the cowl could lay/lie down without "pulling" the s.a. to show.
Myrna what a job you did morphing that pattern into what you were knocking off, I love that ModCloth piece and yours virtually replicates it. I'm a sucker for any kind of shirred top, asymmetric all the better, this certainly fits the bill.

Liana, it's nice to see you at your sewing machine again, and having a warm fleece vest is just the thing, given your bitterly cold temperatures there in the Plains states. Stay warm!
Carole, that is such a pretty print, and it looks nice on you. Do you think the neckline of the pattern would be more cooperative with a more stable knit? Just wondering.
Myrna, I just love it when people repurpose TNT patterns to create a new design. That top is very, very kewl. It may inspire me to try a version of my own. Keep those great photos coming!

Carole, a very nice blouse and I do hope you get the neckline issue sorted out.
Minky - oh minky. I love the feel of it and plan on putting it on the back of two lap quilts for DH and I. I am not sure if I would sew garments out of it but would consider lining something with it, especially a jacket.
I was to embroidery club yesterday and we made a sachet. Mine is very heriloom looking and I tried varigated thread. Will post a picture of it later.
I finished up this table runner called Rail Romp. It is a very easy pattern to make and I enjoyed the process. I started it last May and it got put away when we were getting packed and I found it at Christmas in a box so decided to finish it up. The oriental theme is not really my house choice but it will make a nice gift for someone.

OK, I know I've written way too much about the tiny jacket I made for DD's friend and I thank you for all the nice comments.
Over the holidays, we took a photo of her in the jacket and here she is! I had worried that I had made it too small and you can see that that is not the case. I've decided that she is a Jalie size -1. The left side pokes out because of the position of her arm. She's delighted with it and has been wearing it often.

As well she should be, PattiB! You did such a wonderful job, and the jacket looks as good as (better than, actually) RTW. It fits her like a dream. It's a pleasure to see it again.

Patti, the jacket looks great on her and both of you should be proud of it.
I am on a roll today and this is probably very uninspirational but it had to be done. I made this grocery bag holder for the school and it took no time at all. I got the pattern from this website:
About.com: Sewing
I bought a fat quarter of fabric that I thought the kids would like, 18" of elastic, and some hem tape as I couldn't find any ribbon to match. I followed the directions and, in no time flat, I had this cute holder. I will have to make one for my home when I get my UFO's done.
I call this a no fail project. This was my grade 8 sewing project when I taught Home Economics in Prespatou. The students loved them.

....AND... I guess an option would be the top of 8511 with the bottom of 8409. Thoughts?
Earlier I wondered about the top of 8511 with a different bottom. In the end, it's the bottom I love and I'll make some changes to the bodice next time. Here it is in my tester fabric. Back view and details on my blog. Thanks for everyone's input. - Myrna

Patti the jacket for your dd's friend came out great!
Ann the bag is really cute you are very productive
Myrna I love that dress on you! What are you going to change on the bodice? It's hard to see what might be awry in the dark fabric.

Thanks. It has shoulder princess seams on the bodice. I'll change that to armscye seams so that I can narrow the shoulder seam and add a set in rather than a dropped sleeve. It'll be more flattering on me. I'll shorten the sleeve slightly and narrow it so it's not adding width to my hips and change the neckline slightly - a little narrower and more scooped. Just some fine-tuning to suit my figure type better.

Liana, great vest! It is such a lovely color for you. I tend to live in things like that this time of year and always say I should just whip one up. But I never do. I am impressed. Sewing unusual things is so much fun. Making a fabulous basic is almost harder because it is too easy to get tempted by all the exotic stuff.
Myrna, that is one lovely top you are making and the details you have shown us so far are very enticing. I can't wait to see the finished product. The dress is lovely on you too and I can see how changing it so it is just a little bit smaller through the shoulder will make a major improvement. You look great it in now, with the changes you will be fab-u-lous!
Carole, your new top is soo pretty. I can't see any problem in the picture but I hope you get it worked out so that you are happy with it since you look so lovely wearing it.
Ann, you always make such pretty things.
PattiB, the jacket for your DD's friend is just lovely. It looks perfect on her and I am sure she must be thrilled to have something so beautifully made and that fits her so well. She looks better, and the jacket looks better, than many photo shoots of high end designer jackets. You must be tickled beyond belief.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to making the changes to the dress. Not sure when that will be but probably not too long from now so I don't forget. The top is finished. I'll write it up on tomorrow's blog posting with more how-to details. As always, some things I'd do differently but that's the fun and challenge of sewing.

Patti, great jacket - looks perfectly fitted on her. I'm sure as she's so tiny it's hard for her to find RTW to fit. I have never had that problem myself
but I would imagine that vanity sizing has made it very challenging for those with small builds to find clothes.
Myrna, lovely dress - I too would have dismissed that skirt style thinking it'd make me look too wide, but instead it does a great job of camouflaging. Very chic.
I finished a new pair of PJs last weekend. It felt great to be back in the sewing room after all of our holiday travel. The top was self-drafted from an existing garment using the press n seal method, and had actually been mostly finished for a couple months. When I got the crazy tie dye fabric at a local sewing get-together that coordinated, it seemed like destiny. The pants are my first trial of a Knipmode plus pant pattern, and I wish I'd gotten a decent picture of them on - the fit, particularly in the butt, is spot on and required virtually no adjustment, as opposed to the Big 4 patterns that I have to chop up quite a bit.

Myrna, I love your dress. It looks great on you. Dresses are hard for me to buy and sew as I have to lengthen the back and the front - both different distances. I think I was made up of the left over parts for that week. I can hardly wait to see the dress in the proper fabric.
Laura, cool pj's. I think the fabric is striking.
I need to get things done here and I might get a smidge of sewing done - binding for a table topper. Yup - the UFO queen is finishing her UFO's
again
. I look at them piled up and think - I need more hours in the day. Or is it less working hours and more play hours that I need. Whatever!

Myrna, I love your new top! It's very stylish and unique. And thanks for the detailed posting on your blog. I hadn't realized that the pleated side was applied to the side piece. That does seem simpler and much less bulky than having a seam right over the bust line with all the fabric.

Laura, there's nothing quite as nice as a comfy pair of pjs in the wintertime. Hibernation at its finest. Enjoy wearing those nice pjs while sipping some hot cocoa and watching a great chick flick. I would join you but I've already OD'd on hot cocoa, Bridget Jones' Diary, and Miss Congeniality this winter.
