Fran
I enjoyed your photos and would definitely be upset to pay extra for the beads and then have one missing. Used to be that the cleaners would automatically check for loose buttons/etc and reattach. Guess like every place else, pride in one's professional work is suffering.

I have been away for a while, visiting in our old digs in Ohio. Oh such good old friends! But our new North Carolina friends are treasures indeed. One NC husband called me and said that since his wife saw my sewing studio, her mojo for sewing has been reawakened, and could I please direct him to a good dressiform for a birthday gift for her. Of course I said the Fabulous Fit form, but that's just a personal preference.
DD absolutely loved the 3 dress I took to her on our visit. She is desperately in need of a career wardrobe, and loved the dresses I took to her. The best news was that the dressform which I reshaped for her on her June visit is perfect! Not one dress needed a modification! Yay! I love to sew but hate to alter!
Deirdre, your dress and cardigan for your DGD are exquisite. The boullion stitch that you did with the buttons is truly inspiring. What a great use of an embroidery stitch for something as mundane as sewing on a button! The outfit is soooo beautiful! It makes me wish for a granddaughter when the time comes. If it ever does.
The fabric you chose is exquisite. I can only imagine the feel of that lovely cotton damask.
Fran, thank you so much for sharing your photos. You and your DD find the kewlest garments, and I love the way you amoritze them by sharing and/or copyiing the pattern. It puts me in mind of the story that Linda Lee tells of one trip to Paris, visiting the Issey Miyake atellier. and buying a skirt before she really understood the conversion rate. She said that she came home and made a pattern of a version of that skirt to amortize the expense! Such a great story.
I love the styles you have chosen. How lucky that what catches your eye catches that of your DD as well! And I also loved wandering through the latest photos in your Flickr album, Fran. I'm inspired to sew even more! You should start a 'blog.
Ann, as usual, I am delighted to see the results of your latest embroidery club project. You make even a grocery bag look like fun! I've decided to look for a local embroidery club as well, based on the great things that you make!

Fran, it took me a while to be able to find time to look at your photos - great garments!! Inspirational indeed and I must go back and look some more. I second fzxdoc's encouragement for you to start a blog - I would be a follower for sure

Thank you Sewsy and Kathryn for you compliments on the dress for DGD.
Sewsy, unfortunately I won't get to see it on her in person for a while as they live in Bermuda and I am in Nova Scotia.

I love how that Jalie top is constructed. Christine Jonson's newest "v neck top" is constructed in a similar manner. It works really well with fabrics that don't have enough snappy recovery to just turn and stitch the hems, because it is self faced. I have made that jalie top in a size larger in fleece, and it is nice b/c it keeps you warm w/o looking like everyone else in the ski lodge! They both make up nicely in sweater knits too!

Thank you all, my sewing friends, for such nice comments on my fashion choices. Believe it or not, I do wear color, but am really attracted to the neutrals.
Andrea, your idea of making the Jalie top in a larger size and in fleece is genius! I just love this top and it simply couldn't be any easier. I will keep this in mind when I come across some thinnish fleece.
Pardon my chuckles, but "Me"?.. a blog??? Holy cow, I'm still learning how to post photos!!! But thanks for the vote of confidence..I think I'll keep to my periodic postings here. You may have noticed that I tend to go for stretches of time between posts.
Kathryn, your daughter's dress is so pretty..I must have missed your original post, but caught up on your blog.Using fabrics from your stash??even better! You siad you made 3 outfits. Did I miss the others? Everything you do is so precise. Many of us have DD's and DIL's and grandchildren to create for and that's fun.
I plan to visit Anne Kendall of Apple Annie fame today..and I have to find borders and backing for my finished quilt pieced top so I can take it to FL with me to finish. A fun day for sure!

WOW - - all of the projects posted are beautiful. I always hate to start mentioning names as I'm afraid I'll miss someone! It's great to 'come home' and sit down to this thread. My mind starts spinning with all the projects I 'think' I want to copy from all of you!
It turned cold here yesterday - perfect time to think of coats. Ann I always love your creations - 3 weeks - - sometimes it takes me 3 weeks to make a simple pair of slacks!! Beautiful coat!

Fran, thank you for the compliments on the DVF dress that I made for DD. I have indeed made 3 other dresses for her, but have not had the time to 'blog them as yet. One doesn't really count as a dress, though, since it is a slip-like underdress that allows her to wear a more revealing RTW dress in her wardrobe with modesty. I'll put those 3 additional dresses on my 'blog one of these fine days.
