Starting this topic on Louise Cuttings patterns.  Good place to ask questions and post what you are doing with these.

Thank you Terri for starting this topic here...I received the computer 'Anything But Ordinary' (ABO)generated single size of the jacket and top yesterday...I quickly took it to my blueprinter for 4 copies...I will now check to see that the computered lines are exactly where my original pencil lines were drawn. I use one of the blueprinted copies to make all my corrections on and then transfer the changes neatly to the original drawing. The reason for 4 copies...that way I can give a set to my sample maker along with a set of the almost finished instructions and let her sew the jacket and top as if it is directly from a purchased pattern...this way I can see any 'holes' in the pattern or insturctions and they can be corredted before the pattern is graded or the instructions are finished.

The rest of the day is getting everything ready for the van.. I am  picking up tomorrow for the trip to Texas. All the fabric has to be pulled (about 250 bolts)...patterns, booklets, office stuff, cash register, tables, kits for the day before sit and sew, my samples, the clothes for the rolling rack...the rolling rack...signs, table cloths...and still about  midnight...I will remember something else that needs to be thrown in.

Once Texas is over, I have one week before I go and film for America Sews with Sue Hausmann...everything is ready for that...I had to have garment sections that would be using pressing techniques ...I am the new spokes person for Rowenta Irons for clothing...they have another person for the home dec area and another for quilting. The filming will showcase different techniques in garment construction as well as several different irons.

I then am looking at being off the road until the ASG conference in Virginia the first part of August...that is until I was asked to be the new contributing editor to Threads Magazine...all the the editoral staff will be meeting in Newtown, CT early July. This will be my first meeting...I will let you know how that goes.

Well, my coffee is finished...the kitties had play time out on the new and improved back patio...so it is time to get into the patterns, fabrics and booklets and get eveything organized.  until later, Louise

Louise!  I'm so glad to see you here, and to find out what you've been doing in you"spare" time.  I'm looking forward to more designs from you (and if you get really bored, could you have one of those fabric sales in the hotel conference room again soon?)

Hello Louise. While at the Sewing Expo in Puyallup I purchased your Butterflies and Bees jacket pattern. On the way home I stoped at Fabric Depot in Portland and bought two pieces of coordinating very light weight denim. One is plain and the other is a print with Japanese small block designs. I would like to make the jacket reversible, the plain denim would have all the pocket and the print would be the plain look. Hope I am making sense to you. Would this be feasible/do able before I start getting my self into a problem.  ???Your input is always greatly appreciated. Take of yourself and hugs to the kitties.

Just had to note that I've made a couple more pair of Louise's one seams!  It had been a while and I'd forgotten how easy that are to make and how comfortable they are!  Woohoo!  Like wearing pajamas to work - but they look so good!  I have two more pair to go but had to add my  BIG THANKS  once again for this pattern, Louise! smug Grin

Thank you Ann...I'm always glad to hear from friends. I have been knee deep in projects trying to get ready to flim this coming week...trying to get all the samples ready for the show and upcoming expos. Fabric has been arriving for the ASG Conference in VA this Aug...still waiting on some buttons I ordered in March....like I need more buttons.

I will be teaching at Novi this Sept instead of Arilington, VA...I'm starting to have weekends filled for '07.

Well, I am trying to straighten out the sewing room...way to much fabric buying (for me) and am having shelving delivered today. So all the fabric has been folded nicely and is just waiting for their new home...Of course, just like all of you..with each piece I say..."when will I ever get this sewn up?" But, as I called my store 'Fabric Collections' not 'Fabric Take it Home and Sew it this Afternoon'...way to long of a name to go across the top of the store!! ....There were those pieces..."What was I thinking?'...till later, Louise

But, as I called my store 'Fabric Collections' not 'Fabric Take it Home and Sew it this Afternoon'.

 Cheesy Ain't THAT the truth!

And I'm still trying to get the 'must be done' sewing caught up so I can make my In The Trenches from the linen blend I bought from you at the Atlanta Expo...2005...  Roll Eyes

Glad to see this thread and glad to see you, Louise.  Cheesy

I lived in Lakeland, FL for 9 years and visited your shop often.  I just learned you no longer have the shop.  Bummer for those still in Florida.  Cry  I look forward to seeing you at ASG in August.

The Cincinnati Chapter of ASG had Louise for two days in April.  She is a wonderful person and has so many things to teach.  I have been sewing for over 50 years and I learn something new from everyone of her classes.  If your chapter needs a speaker, I really recommend her.
I bought several (almost all) of her patterns when she was here.  I have made several of the "camp shirt" pattern.  I needed summer shirts.  I wore one I had made in a red cotton that looks like linen to our Comtemporary Quilt and Fiber Artist group.  After the meeting someone came up to me and said "I can't believe you made that shirt I thought you bought it at Macy's."  I had so many compliments on the shirt that I can't wait to make some more.  I gave Louise's name and website to one lady that wanted the pattern.  Another lady that I must have told about Louise and showed her patterns to said she had ordered three of Louise's patterns and would order the camp shirt now.  Maybe more quilters will start making garments.

Hello Louise. I just finished the jacket Butterfly and Bees jacket, the multipockets version, I used the plain lightweight denim.  Finally figured out that doing a reversible jacket using both styles would not be feasible. I want to THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT AND DETAILED step by step instructions. Without them I would have for sure messed up on some of the steps. The jacket turned out very well. Now to find some fantastic buttons to really give it some punch.  Grin Do take care of yourself and hugs to the kitties.

Yes, please on the Butterflies & Bees!  I have the pattern ironed and ready to trace but I am wondering about the sizing on it and how the dolman sleeve fits.

Hello Portia and Linda. Will try and post a picture later today. I selected a large and added 1/2 " at the bottom tapering to the armhole. I do this will all of Louise's patterns, Xlge being much to big for my shoulders and just right for my hips area. The modified raglan sleeves "hit" in the right area of the shoulder/arm. I call it a modified raglan because there is a bit of a shoulder, meaning that the sleeve seams do not end at the neckline. Hope all of this makes sense. Make sure to mark and label your pieces both with the name and number of the pattern pieces. I did find out that one of the pocket flaps was label with the correct name but the the number was not, or vice versa. There are lots of pieces to this pattern, after cutting our my pattern/fabric I pinned all the pieces to a specific area together ie, the right sleeve, the front, the back etc, this way I did not have to hunt for them. Well must get ready for a doctor visit, time for a new series of knee shot for the arthritis. Bye for now. Till later.

Hi Jackie B!

You'll find directions on how to post photo's here.  There's a lot of "stuff" on this forum, so if you ever want to "play" and try things out...or ask for help if something you try doesn't work, the Sandbox is a nice place to try those things out.

Nice to have you here!

Hi Jackie B.  If you'd like me to work on it with you, come over to the Sandbox, start a post of a picture, and if it goes wrong...I'll see what I can do to help.  (That way I can see what you're doing and we'll get it sorted!)

For instance, I think I can help you get your picture resized... Grin

Hi all...I returned home from filming at America Sews for the past 2 days. The filming was featuring Rowenta Irons. I chose to show the collar from my patterns, the cut, getting it back into shape, interfacing, sewing, trimming, turning, pressing. Next was couture darts, sewing and pressing, pegging a staight skirt.Talk about what needle and threads I like....quilting needle and cotton thread. Then using the template and a mitered corner that was featured in 'B&B'...I had so many more techniques ready to film...but the half hour went very quickly...maybe next time. Sue and I were able to do it in one take (always a good thing)....becuase it is PBS...you are not able to mention product names or major features of those product, so you are constantly on guard. I did ask about when the program will 'go up'  I was told mid Sept and the number of the program is 2310...so this is the 23rd series Sue has done and I am number 10 in line of the 13 (I think) and I know the shows are shown on your local PBS in order...the first time they are shown...then the local PBS can show them in any order they want (many show the series again in order and others will show this season and past seasons mixed up.

Well, today is the new project/product day...I am starting a whole new line of products and now that filming is out of the way, I can concentrate on it. it will be called 'Cutting Out'...what else would I do with my name!!! Grin...more to come later about the new line.

I too want to see the 'B&B' photos when you are able to get them up. I can't rmemember, was it  on this list or the SW list that someone wanted to make the' B&B  as a regular jacket with out all the posckets and in the single layer? I will also post this question on  SW. Doing this change is not hard, after a bit is explination. Got to run...till later, Louise

PS...and all the Kitties are doing fine....with the help of my house keeper staying here when I travel and the vet tech coming in daily for Yum-yum....when I am gone... the old gal has made it 10 months on her meds! and is so much better for it. later, L

Jackie,

Love the jacket! Grin Grin Like LindaE, now there is another pattern of Louise's that I just have to get!  I've also had so much on my plate that I've neglected to order the pattern, thinking that I'd pick it up at the Chantilly expo this fall, but now Louise mentioned on a thread somewhere that she isn't going to be at that particular expo, so I'll  have to get it ordered!

Love the details, but that is one of Louise's trademarks!  Jackie, you did a beautiful job! smug I know you are proud of your work and you should be! Wink

I looked at the ASG.org schedule http://www.asg.org/files/asg_conf_brochure_06.pdf
and if you are able to attend even the exhibit hall floor...here are the times and dates that are listed in the brochure starting on page 4. Thur, Aug 3, the exhibit hall is open 7:00pm-9:30pm.....Friday and Saturday, Aug 4 & 5, 1:30pm-7:00pm, Sunday, Aug 6 11:00am-5:00pm.

On page 21 of the schedule is a registration form. You can take classes for just one day Fri, Sat, or Sun  if you would like instead of the whole event and the exhibit hall has an unlimited fee for $5.00 during the event. I think this is all accurate info. If anyone know anything differently, please chime in.

The whole event is at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Crystal City, VA close to Reagan National Airport, Wash DC.

I will be there with fabrics, buttons and the new line of products...which I need to get to the sewing room and get started on.

I have the multi-size pattern (computer lines) for 'ABO' (jacket and top) that I have to go over tomorrow and then on to the next step. I wore the Jacket on Sue's program for filming. I did the same with 'P & P' before it came out. I knew by the time the show aired the pattern would be ready...or it would push me to make sure it was ready...same with 'ABO'.

To Jackie B the jacket looks great. I love when someone visits with me at a show and says they don't read directions...I nicely Wink suggest they might want to read mine...even I  Shocked have to read the directions for 'B &B' when I have made the jacket.

Portia...I now looked and know it was you that asked about the 'B&B' with out the pockets. The body of the two layer jacket is the same general shape as the pocket version, but you will need to add the neck and front facings. And the hem to the jacket. You may use the sleeve from the two layer jacket in the one you are planning on making if you don't want the vent at the sleeve hem area or, cut the sleeve that doesn't have the pocket in it twice...this way you will have a left and right sleeve and the vent with the button.

Let me know if you need anything else .

Will report of my progress today on the new project. till later, Louise

Thank you Louise for posting about the ASG conference.   I'll most likely be in the DC area that week anyway - intensive schedule through the end of this year.  I won't be able to commit to the daily classes but I'll try to get tickets for the exhibit hall.

Jackie - I like your B&B jacket.  Good job on the topstitching!

Louise -  I must have missed your post - tell me more about the coming ABO pattern.

Linda - many of Louise's patterns are inspired by Eskandar's designs that sell very well in Neiman Marcus and other high end stores.   If you do a search on eBay, you'll see what I'm talking about -  many dropped-shoulder sleeves.

Hi Linda and Terri, Many designers use drop shoulders and have for years...they will fit a wider size range...more is the point..... people will fit into them. One can gain and lose weight and the drop shoulder will fit until the body will either get too small (grrr) or too large (yeah). When Neiman Marcus started to carry drop shoulders styles tops and elastic waist pants in their mail order catalogues the return rate dropped 80%.

With the drop shoulder style, it really doesn't matter where the seam is....that has nothing to do with the fit or non fit. The style is based on the 'kimono' sloper. The body of the garment and the sleeve extending out at a right angle to the body (looks like an upside down 'L'). Then it is up to the designer where the seam will be placed. You could get rid of the seam altogether by 'marrying' the sleeve into the body of the garment. But usually the patten can't fit onto a piece of fabric without a seam in the general sleeve shoulder seam area. The back of the garment would have to go from the wrist of one hand all the way across the back of the garment to the wrist of the opposite hand.

Before I loose this all togherer (we are having storms here) I'll send this off to you. till later, Louise
