Off to fill orders and try to find some boxes that were shipped but not delivered as yet...but I might just be borrowing trouble...then off to illustrate today.

Was browsing eBay last night and found some terrific ideas for the By Popular Demand Jacket pattern. Many jackets today are cut with "bracelet sleeves" ending and inch or so about the wrist bone. I thought you'd like this one
Chanel tweed and denim Jacket
where tweed fabric is sewn with the fringed edge oriented toward the inside rather than at the edge. I may try this on a BPD jacket using a remnant of some Linton tweed fabric. Just sew the right side of a tweed piece around inside the sleeve edge (right side of tweed to wrong side of sleeve) turn and SaS and then top stitch before the fringe. Same for the jacket hem. Maybe tweed on the entire upper collar. I might use the tweed as trim on the pockets like the black & white trim. Wow, this makes the hems a no-brainer
Chanel Jacket from Only Moda eBay store
Here's another one in black denim with bias cut trim
Black with black & white tweed Chanel Jacket
Chanel Jacket from Clarsanna eBay Auctions

I made the points blouse - without the point!
It's a nice camp shirt style that way. I have the ST cut out but it hasn't made it to the top of the stack yet! The ST looks like it will be way easy to put together - I need to do a few instant gratification projects!

Marcia, I looove instant gratification projects too. Alice, that's what I was thinking because the remnant I have is only a yard so there isn't anything else I could do with it except use it for wonderful trim. When I saw that Chanel jacket I knew exactly what I was going to use
Re the Stars in Heaven, Hellenne (Artist who Sews) made a couple in knits for that wonderful Silk Road SWAP she did (and was voted first place that time). Timmel Fabrics has a link to the article featuring her SWAP. I don't have that pattern (yet) but Hellenne also sewed tunic view B with the funnel neck putting the seam allowances on the outside. That's on my short list of ideas to copy.

Here's my instant gratification project from yesterday - the ABO top sewn in white cotton waffle pique. If I have enough fabric left over, it's a nice little top to make up.

On the knits, I cut out 1" from the neckline, serged the edges, then topstitched them down. Same for sleeves. I used a tiny zig/zag for topstitching on this fabric and it disappeared into the texture of the knit pique. Take a look at the LH V neck shell on my Flickr photos just added. I put some heirloom trim in the neckline of that one.

I did see that - after I'd posted - also saw the notation that you had cut out 1 in on the neck! Thanks for the info. I found a brown ABO top in the unfinished shelf yesterday! I made facings for it but I like the looks of your white one better!

Say it ain't so!!! I'm having a bad day at work, and decided to look at the upcoming schedules for the Sewing Expo. Thought it would give me something to look forward to. I didn't see Louise scheduled at any of the Expo's that are posted. Please, Louise, tell me you're
coming to the Expo in Atlanta in March!!! You're one of the main reasons I make the drive.

bACK FOR A MINUTE AND A HALF BEFORE i HEAD oops...cap lock left on...to Asheville. You all have been busy...I was not able to get on the internet very well from my hotel room, and when I did it blew me off about every 5 minutes.
As far as the Expos...I sure think I am at Tampa, Atlanta and Worcester. Were you looking at the teaching roster for 2007? I was not able to teach at any of the fall venues so my picture and bio was not up.
Well, I still have much to do today and get some more things crossed off my list. till later, Louise

ANNOUNCEMENT - I just found out that there's one space available at the 3 day workshop next week in Asheville with Louise Cutting and Linda Lee. There was a cancelation, so if anyone is interested, call Joyce at Waechter's at 828-252-2131 and she can give you the details.

WORKSHOP UPDATE: The workshop in Asheville with the creative duo of Louise and Linda is underway. Sandy, Louise's assistant, whom any of you who attend Louise's events know, is also there. They drove up from FL on Sunday with all their goodies. Sandy had on my favorite ABO top in a textured fabric with bracelet length sleeves - something I must do. She and I talked about how easy it would be to add a bias cowl collar to that top - like the Stars In Heaven tunic. It got cold here so Louise was looking great in the mint green shearling By Popular Demand jacket combined with black & white coordinates. She always is so put together.
Lots of fabulosity, sewing and creating going on. My Stylist came to pick me up and was overwhelmed at all the energy (he had come from a check-up & had gotten a flu shot) Many of the ladies were wearing their SW & CLD outfits while sewing and creating. Lots of neat interpretations. Maybe later I'll get some photos posted.

Thanks for the update - would love to see pictures. 3/4 length sleeves sound great - my mind is already "percolating" however I must make the ST top first!! I did get all the interfacing applied last night. I'm going to my friends later today so plan on spending a few PSDs!!
I even found buttons from my stash that will compliment the top!

Here's the Eskandar top with the longer sleeve. I much prefer the better fitting top all around with the ABO pattern - same tab on shoulder, and a better looking sleeve. The sleeve on Sandy's top was a bit longer than this but you get the idea.

Would someone who has the Heading for Adventure duster pattern be able to scan the directions about inserting the square corner and email it to me? I am making La Fred's Athena blouse and everyone says that Louise's direction on her pattern are the way to go to put in the square sleeve. I would very much appreciate it.

I added photos from my brief time there - basically the 'end of the day' at the workshop. I didn't include personal photos of the attendees so as not to intrude on their privacy. Everyone had a great time and got a lot accomplished. I didn't attend officially but stopped in to say hello to all my friends at the end of the first day and helped Joyce from Waechter's, Linda and Louise pack up and took Linda to the airport yesterday afternoon.
I believe this may become an annual event.

Not, sending someone directions on how to do one construction technique is not infringing on copy write laws. Now if I asked for the entire pattern and wanted to copy it and call it my own, then yes. But all I want is tLouise's directions on how to insert a square corner.

Hi ReAnn, you're a wonderful and talented sewer and I understand what you are saying. But Alice is correct. Louise works very hard to develop and illustrate the techniques that are in the booklets she sells and the applicable patterns. The pattern instructions are copyrighted, as are the booklets. Creating and delivering instructions (paper, seminar & workshops) on these techniques is how Louise makes her living. I bought the pattern and made it, and was amazed at what she came up with to achieve perfection. And I'll make it again a different way, using different fabrics.
Suggest you e-mail her and she may have that in one of the booklets - I'm no expert on content. You would not be disappointed in the pattern garments either

FYI, Fred Bloebaum's Athena blouse is so well designed and the markings and directions were so exact that the square corners went in with absolutely no need for further instruction. Took me no more time to put in the sleeves in this blouse, really less time, than putting in a standard set-in sleeve. Her fit was exactly what the pattern envelope said it was and I didn't need to do any adjustments to the pattern except shorten the sleeve length for my shorter arm length and the hem to my personal taste.
Thank you for your opinions on this sharing issue . I respect your thoughts and will discuss them with Louise when I see her in January. I just wonder how different it would be, if say, one of my local sewing buddies happened to have the duster pattern and let me borrow it. Would that friend have been violating copy write laws or just sharing a pattern with a friend? And interesting conundrum, isn't it?

Hi gang...I'm in Chicago for a few days at another retreat. tomorrow is the last day on the road for the year and will be home at midnight.
Now about Rowenta's....I have not had a problem with it leaking. If the iron has set for awhile in the 'holster' pick it up and press the steam button to purge the water that might have gathered close to the sole plate. I would (and have) done this with any steam generator iron I have ever used. As for filling it...the tank part is opaque and I just put a pencil eraser side down to see how high the water is. I know the tank takes 33 oz and I have a bottle that carries about 30 oz of liquid...so when it gets down close to the bottom, I just fill it with tap water.
Will 'e' when I get back home. till later, Louise
