There's how I used my paper dolls on the planning board for the  Heading for Adventure jacket    Linda.   I got these in Feb when Louise was in Tampa.   I wanted to do something really interesting with that linen and it was very useful to have the large size actual line drawing to color in the stripes and pattern changes I wanted, then to see how it would look.

Terri,
Thanks for posting your planning board.  I have a new empty bulletin board and I think I will try that.  Do you live in Asheville?  If so, you are very lucky to be that close to Waechter's.  Last October we stopped by there on the way to Clemnson, SC for a reunion with some of my high school friends and we stopped on the way back.  Of course, I bought stuff both times.  I really like the lady that owns the shop.

Yes, we're about ten minutes east of Asheville toward Black Mountain and Montreat NC.   DH built that board as he did everything else in the sewing room.   It's clean and ready for fall sewing.   Right now I'm doing planning for fall coordinates in browns.   I e-mailed Louise about some lush, mahogany brown silk velvet that I have six yards of.    I've about worn my silk black velvet pants out so I was thinking pants and a long HFA.   She said it might be tricky with all the topstitching and steam a seam needed so I'm rethinking.   My sewing experience with velvet is "keep it simple stupid".

We watched Clemson's football game yesterday.  With 83,000 people in that stadium, I never saw so much orange in high def  Shocked     If there was anybody from Florida there you couldn't see em.

I'm wondering what her next pattern will be....

Hi all...I am in the house and the laptop is connected...food purchased and am by myself tonight...first set of house guests arrive tomorrow late afternoon. Trip up was uneventful...long but an easy run...and my luggage made it with me all the way! Stocked the house,  unpacked....I shipped 2 boxes of clothes/shoes/etc. to a friend's house last week here on the island...on the small airplanes, if your suitcase is too big...they tend to leave it till later??? Like tomorrow or the next day! As I was unpacking this evening...I kept laughing...didn't you read your own book?Huh But then I have to remember at this time of the year and the length of time I'm here...you can have 4 seasons usually in one day...oh, and then there are the 4 seasons with rain...at this time of year anything can happen.

It is my birthday tomorrow, and I plan to spend some quiet time at the little lighthouse in the harbor where I placed Neville's ashes, before I pick up my friends at the airport.

I'm glad Terri you posted your picture of your design board...it is a great example of what you can do with the 'paper dolls'. I know Linda has already started to clean out her closet...everyone does as soon as they start reading the  'Clutter booklet'  I still have blazers to go through in my own closet...I know I have not worn a blazer in 5 years...it just isn't me anymore.

I took Sandy's copy of Threads the day we when snoop shopping..my copies don't come for a another week or so and they arent in the book stores yet, but I wanted to read it while I am up here....I will report on a collar we saw on a Akris jacket at the 'real Neimans'.  It's not hard, just the way it has been placed on the fabric. I will  write about it in the upcoming days.  I was up at 2AM to get ready for the cab picking me up at 4...I didn't have to get up at 2, just did and the kitties knew something was up... So I will be short lived tonight...I am not making any sense...I have read what I have written and have had to rewrite some (a bunch) of it.

So keep playing with the paper dolls and keep be posted to your progress. till later, Louise

I should be in my studio.. but I'm getting a kick out of being HERE - and familiarizing myself with what's going on. Tuning in, this just came to me: I wonder if anybody here knows Marcy Tilton  and Diane Ericson, the two wizzardesses  of pattern making, design ideas, and  creative inspiration?  They "always" do a 4 day workshop here in Taos, end of September, called "Design outside the lines".. It IS total fun, and some of you might consider attending. ( I usually go over there one evening as a guest speaker.) Check it out here:  http://www.marcytilton.com/index.php?cid=83&
Wouldn't it be fun if some of us would meet there??

Welcome Annette -  I thought your post very nice and informative - not sure if you noticed, but Louise's first link for inspirational sites (her Aug 22 post) is your Artemisia web site so we can ooogle the great artwear!.   I started a specific topic for the "Design Outside the Lines" discussion under the Fashion, Style and Wardrobe heading.   I always think of those topics as Inspiration too!

Hi Annette -   Glad you found us.  As for the taxonomy of the board - I never know what is the "right" folder, if there is such a thing  Huh   We all enjoy designing and sewing up our versions of the great outfits you sell using wonderful independent patterns.    One thing about Louise's patterns are that her instructions include detailed, industry-type techniques for getting great results..

On another note - Do you ever sell the Babette label?  That designer really makes interesting use of great textured fabrics, and some of the jackets resemble Louise's pattern styles.

Wanted to share this great "Points Blouse" I saw at Waechter's this evening.  It's fabulous in Japanese cottons.  Thursday evenings at Waechter's Stitch Cafe is the place to be  Grin    They had a linen Anything But Ordinary top in a display on the wall - didn't see a photo on the gallery.   It was done in a large block linen like this one and was stunning.

Where can I find fabulous fabric like this?   This fabric wasn't shown on Waechter's site for purchase.    any clues to other fabric also as fabulous?

They don't have anymore of that  specific Japanese cotton Beth but there is a whole row of others that were tempting me.   They also have a ton on linens and linen blends.  I'm just a happy customer - no affiliation, but if you e-mail them as to what you're looking for you'll get a response.

I loved that print that you showed on the P&P. I too had that Japanese cotton fabric when I did several of the shows around the country. That company only does their prints once...never to be seen again. At least any time I tried to re-order a design, I never got it. The company has wonderful designs...I always have to stop myself from over ordering, but I always do.  I had about 25-30 different printed cottons at the ASG conference in Sacramento...and just about all were sold. Everybody else loves them too.

I was able to read the enter New York Times yesterday. I never get the whole paper in Florida on Sunday. The Style and Travel section along with the second section of the News is never included or is short changed. So, I rarely purchase the Times unless I am close to NYC.  But when I was delivering the first set of house guests to the airport yesterday, I saw tons of different sections on the floor. I asked in the little gift & magazine shop gal "Do we build our own Times???" She said those sections are sent in on Satuday and the News section had not come in as yet. They will build the papers and will be out after 10AM.

In looking through the Times Magazine yesterday afternoon, I noticed they had the dates for the special editions for the fall. So, if you normally buy the Sunday Times here are the dates to look for...and if you don't normally get it, you might make a special purchase.

The Design: Interiors. Ideas. Form & Function is 10/7.
The Woman's Fashion & Beauty: lndulgences. Luxury. Appearances 10/21.
Design & Living: Interiors. Entertaining. Lifestyle. 11/4
Holiday: Art. Celerbrations. gifts. Home & Travel 12/2.

I always try to get the Woman's Fashion one...it used to come out the first part of September, but now is the 10/21.

By the way, thank you all for wishing me a Happy Birthday. I loved all the different happy faces/cakes/pompoms. thank you, thank you.

till later, Louise

Sew Sew Sandi had her Points blouse on today at ASG and it is lovely.  The button treatment is just perfect, very inventive.

On another topic, Sept. 5, AnnetteR mentioned the Design Outside the Lines workshop with Diane Ericson and Marcy Tilton.  Both ladies will be having classes at the Minneapolis Expo. in November.  We will miss Louise this year, I imagine that November in Minnesota is not her favorite destination!

Morning all....it is truely crisp here this morning! At least for a Florida girl.

Quote

I do like Minn in November Wink!!! But teaching events are planned far in advance of the dates of the Sewing Expos and sometimes there dates move a week or two. I will be doing another sewing retreat with Linda Lee in Asheville at the time of the Minn show. I will not be able to attend any to the fall sewing expos becasue of teaching around the country... http://fabriccollections.com/schedule/schedule.html but I hope to see many of you at these events.

I'll report later on what details I have seen in clothes up here. Lots of fall clothes of course right now and lots of sweathers...not used to seeing so many cashmere sweaters. Beautiful large yummy sweaters...and I have to keep slapping my hands....and repeating to my self..."you live in Florida"

Well the rest of the house is getting up...two friends up from Florida....coffee is ready and now the discussion will start as to where to have Sunday Breakfast? It's all about food! till later, Louise

I'm still trying to clear out the fires that happened while I was gone...like always when you are away. Lightening hit some things in the house...sprinkler system...the downstairs air conditioner compressor (84 degrees in the  downstairs part of the house) now...repair company to come in a few minutes...I hope it is something minor....On Sat night and last night I felt like Goldilocks...what bed upstairs (with air) will I sleep in tonight? Hint: sleep in your guest rooms once in a while to see how the beds feel and what do you have in the way as a straight trip to the bathroom...I'm sure that bruse will go away on my leg soon Wink.  And something called a 'fax card' in the 'all-in-one' hp was damaged...it must have come through the phone line and settle there...and after about an hour hp never heard of that part, even when I told them the number on the part....top of the line $1100.00 printer, etc...gaud,  so it has been an interesting few days...I head out tomorrow to Novi...so got to run and get orders out and packed....if the smoke clears I will post about a some things I saw.

New pattern is finished...well almost, it is in the printing process and will be available soon...I have already started to  work on the next pattern...I have had fun making two of them...just too cool...sorry, no details yet!

Hi Louise,  how's the Novi Expo going?   According to the calendar, there's one more day before you pack up.   Hopefully by the time you come to Asheville, you'll have a couple new patterns to tell us about.
