How to use duckbill applique scissors?

When you are trimming off the excess fabric after satin stitching on one fabric to another, how do you use the duck billed scissors? Pointy end under the fabric or on top?

Pointy end on top.   The big flat flange is supposed to keep the bottom part from cutting into the layer of fabric under what you're trimming away.
