Karendee, to edit just click on the blue box at the upper right of your post that says "modify".   You can edit, add and change if you want, and then save the post.   I don't think there is a "delete post"  functionality in the SW template for this board.      Then you'll see a "last edit" notation in the lower left of your post

You can see it at the bottom of this post.

Alice,

Thanks for the information.  Do you mean that if I describe the fabric to Louise Cutting, that she will sell it to me without the Expo?  When I emailed her about the possibility of getting fabric that Terri K. showed on her pictures from the Atlanta Expo, L.C. said that fabric was sold several times a year, only at the Expos. She was very nice, and responded overnight (as I mentioned earlier), but she made no mention of the possibility of purchase independently of the Expos. I am very open to buying fabric sight unseen as I purchase the majority of mine online, since the sole clothshop in my city is a Hancocks, and I have found some wonderful fabrics. Again, thanks for helping me out. The SG is a most supported group of people.

She's probably on her way to New England now for a sewing retreat with Linda Lee in Mystic CT (per her web site) from Mar 13-16.

Re the fabric request,  I sent her an e-mail and she replied/confirmed that she is still swatching with the SASE method.    If you're still interested in something,  I'd advise printing the photo of the fabric you're interested in  - circle it/them and ask if it's still available and include the SASE for a swatch if you want one.    As she said, most of what she sells is one of a kind and when they're gone,  that's it.

Just to let you know,  since I was there in Atlanta Louise said she wasn't taking fabric to any other events until the ASG show this summer.   I'm sure she'll be getting more in for that show but what was left from Atlanta is probably in her storage area for now so I'm sure she will respond to SASE swatch requests between now and ASG.      I was going to add that I only got one piece of fabric at the Atlanta Expo since I'm trying to behave myself and sew what's in my stash - it's hard to resist temptation though.    Since the temps are going to be in the 60's here today I'm turning my sights toward spring and the cotton/linen stash.

BTW,  is anybody going to ASG in Chicago July 10-14?

I've been finishing up UFOs and pulling together my spring wardrobe.    Here's my wool crepe AST jacket with my now finished (with buttons sewn on) SW Now Shirt and midnight navy tropical wool One-Seam Pant.   I've had those pants a long time but I like how the dark navy works with the pale yellow for spring.    I also liked how the Now Shirt sleeve peaks out from the edge of the jacket sleeve.

Just got in from out of town for two weeks, and this is the first time I have had to post photos of some of Louise's beautiful fabric.   I got the 3-ply silk (actually three layers basted lightly to allow the fabric to drape).  I used Vogue out-of-print 9896 without sleeves.  I used bias binding to stabilize the silk at the neckline, shoulders, and sleeves, and otherwise just let it do its thing.  I was so pleased!   I wanted to do a skirt, but the thought of sitting and perhaps snagging the silk made me change my mind.  This top feels great on!

The second two pictures are made of an embroidered cotton lawn, using Louise's top from Your Everyday Drifter, I think.  I will make it smaller next time, as the sleeves seem a little long to me.  Louise thought I might need to raise the neckline a bit, but I didn't have to.   Perhaps I am getting risque in my old age!

What do y'all think?   I know y'all will overlook any blue or purple marks you see!   Smiley   I just made this before church tonight in about an hour!  Seems to be a keeper.

Oops!   Seems it won't let me add a second photo.   I will try again later.

Your tops are great Lynda.   I remember when you got that gorgeous 3 layer silk  Grin   Isn't the one with the buttons the top from The Everyday Drifter pattern?  It looks great the way it is and the tie waist is attractive.   I loved the white cotton one Louise brought to Asheville.   I don't have that pattern but if it's another fast any easy one, I may have to get it.

I'm thinking about it Linda.     I haven't been to Chicago since trying to make my way back to Washington after all the planes were grounded in Sept 2001.  I had been in Denver that week and took the train to Chicago where I spent the weekend with my cousin and uncle.   They had just opened a new restaurant a few months earlier.

Hi Everyone,

I'm usually a lurker, but I had to come out and tell you all about the fabulous weekend I just spent with Louise and Linda Lee at the Connecticut retreat. They couldn't have more gracious. We all tried on their clothes and got suggestions about what size to start with and what adjustments were needed. I think everyone in the room went home with a one-seam pant pattern that fit! They stayed and worked with us until they weren't needed anymore that day, not even looking at the time. I brought up a few garments made from Louise's patterns that needed just a little tweaking. Now those patterns are adjusted and ready to go. I have a BPD that's more than half finished. In between fitting sessions, we were treated to mini lectures on proportion, fabric, and techniques. It was 4 days of pure pleasure. There was talk about making this an annual event. Well, as long as I'm breathing, I'll be there! Thanks Louise

Diana - Glad to hear about your sewing weekend event and happy you posted.   Please tell us about your finished projects here and post photos if you can.   We love to see what everybody's done with Louise's and the Sewing Workshop patterns.   I mix and match them frequently as they are quite complementary.

Alice -   Are you making the shell?   If so I would say you could lengthen it to whatever works for you.   I would Just slide the pattern down to the length you want it to be because you want to keep those miter corners the longer you make it.   You're tall so you'll want yours longer than I would make it for me!   I'm not sure if what I just said makes sense so hopefully Louise will check in after she gets back home!

Hi all - just back from 5 days in the Bahamas and 5 days in Naples.  Life is hard!  Anyway - Terry, Linda - I'm planning on going to the ASG convention in Chicago.  Haven't pulled up the list of teachers or events as yet - is it online?  But we must all plan on meeting and 'doing dinner' one night.  Wish it weren't so far out of the city as Chicago is my hometown!

Hi ReAnn!   Speaking of ASG,  I don't think they've posted the class schedules yet, just a high level daily schedule.   I just realized today that it's at the airport  Shocked instead of downtown - Boo.    I started a new topic under the events topic.   I've been fighting some really stretchy cotton fabric today fist that is driving me crazy  stars

Dear Everyone
I am a newbie to this website, so not sure even if this will post.  However, I found this through a link from Louise Cutting's website and wanted to share my excitement from the Mystic Retreat with Louise and Linda. applause2  Louise is one of the most patient teachers coupling fine techniques with a down-to-earth, get-it-done attitude.  She never tired of giving us support and advice, even to the layout of the fabric and how to adapt her pattern to show a striped pattern to the best advantage.  I haven't a final product yet as I made two muslins from her patterns while I was there, but I am ready to jump in.  To my surprise (as I dislike elastic band pants), her one-seam-pants pattern fit perfectly without any alterations.  In full confidence, I have requested the magic 3 measurements from my mom (who lives 3000 miles away) and am making pants for her for Mother's Day (ok, a bit early... Wink  )  Louise's rules of porportion were very interesting and also provides a lot of confidence in choosing the right sleeve, hem, jacket length for your individual person.  Great weekend.  And of course, the added treat of meeting all the other sewers and seeing their vision in fabric.  Best to you all and I will look forward to seeing all of your garments!  PS What is the AST pattern?

Hi Nancy,  Thanks for posting about the Mystic Retreat.   The AST is the abbreviation of the A Subtle Twist pattern.  Scroll down to my March 16 post below and you'll see it and the lightweight wool crepe jacket made from that pattern.   Another photo was of the AST jacket made from cotton/linen fabric was posted by Linda on March 9.

Diana, I thank you for letting people know about the retreat with Louise and Linda and how much you enjoyed it.  It was just as enjoyable for those of us that worked on it and we look forward to next year.  Many of those that attended this year's retreat are ready to return.  Louise and Linda are planning new ideas and programs to make next year new and fresh.   Again, thank you Diana and we look forward to seeing you next year.  Joan Boyd

Hi all, I have been trying to keep up with everything you have been doing...but I have been on the road for a month and just now seeing some light on my 'to-do' list...at least I know no one will be in there offices until Monday morning...so when I think I can give myself permission to go to my sewing room and play...first is trying to see the cutting table!

The HGA fashion show garment has now been sent off with hefty insurance $$$ added, as has the journal that was required for the process of the design. But the cutting table has become a catch all for all things upstairs.

I will be sending out a broadcast e-mail about an upcoming retreat I will be doing with Susan Khalje in Oct. still working on that one.

What everyone is doing and posting (I love all the pictures) with CLD patterns is wonderful. I am so pleased that many of you are discovering some the patterns that have been in the collection for a while. Only 2 have been discontinued and 2 more will be shortly.

I have a theory on sewing and fit, it just a 'bag of tissue' you can do anything you want with it...long...short...add width or take some out. I say everything in a fabric store fits and everything in a pattern envelope fits...it is just how you want it to fit you. Nothing is oversized or to skimpy in an envelope.  It is just how you like my patterns to fit you and your style. I will always try to be here to help you with answers to questions.

And a note to Alice...if you are making the long sleeves for the tunic...it has a big roll up 'formed' cuff...if your fabric is light, you can remove some the length of the sleeve (cuff) and just have a softer turn back sleeve hem.

Lynda...I'm so glad you posted the 3 layer silk chiffon shell...that is the coolest fabric...it's like cotton (silk) candy! And I think it was great that you left the hem raw...I think it is the only thing you could have done. Plus, the YED little vest is so cute and in your tiny size...I bet you will make a bundle of them for the summer...nothing could be cooler.

And to the CT retreat gals...we had so much fun...it was a wonderful group of 27!

More retreats to come...Tulsa in Aug, Oct in Winter Park, and Asheville, so stayed tuned.

To Terri, thanks for posting you CLD patterns in beautiful fabrics...I saw the ones you posted on SW and it is becoming a sleek working together wardrobe...have you been reading a booklet Wink?

And yes there is some of the lime green coated fabric left.

I think that covers the last few days of questions...I'll be back later after I'm off the dump truck in the sewing room. till later, Louise

Louise, I am so excited to hear that you will have a retreat in Tulsa. I can drive to that one! I do hope it's not already full. If I'm on your e-mail list, will I receive the details?
