After thinking about it and looking at the pattern I'm going to leave it as is!! Grin If I cut out the small across the top that brings the bottom up a small amount.  Right now the seam line across the front is right under my breast - if it were any higher it wouldn't look good.  This afternoon I finished the P&S that I'd raised the dart on and it fits much better.  The other thing that I noticed is ........ I'm not used to having 'skin' show - I've been wearing T's or turtle necks!!

I hope to start on the Ebb top tomorrow - it's already to go - I threaded the serger tonight and the machine!!  Soooo, if there are no interuptions.....  I'd like to have it to take to AZ with us.

You won't believe this (or maybe you will).  We live in a small town and drive about an hour to a larger town once a month to do our shopping.   This larger town has a Cabela's which DH can't drive by.  Doesn't matter whether he's in my car or his truck, he cannot get by Cabela's. So on this occasion I'm thinking about that Ebb pattern, really tempted, and walk about Cabela's looking at what the upwardly-mobile-outdoors-woman will be wearing this spring.  I saw 3 different incarnations of the Ebb blouse. One had the buttons all the way down the front like Louse described in an earlier post.  One had a yoke seam, how to describe, it's a horizontal seam about 3-4 inches down from the shoulder and the 3rd had added 2 tiny pleats under the bust - I guess that was in case you wanted to look preggers.  So long story short, Ebb is on my "buy" list.  Hope to connect just right with Louse so I can have it soon.

Bev - whenever I've ordered there are elfs there, I guess, because I get my pattern very quick.  I'll have to look at Cabellas women's catalog.  They have a lot of things in the catalog that aren't in the store.  Don't know if that is reversed.  I don't remember the buttons down the front  Roll Eyes will have to search back thru!

I finished another Ebb top!! - -Well, I need to sew on the buttons - since they have a shank I'll have to hand sew and will do that tonight while watching TV!  I had a terrible time with the hem and the vents!! Huh  I measured and remeasured - everything was right on but I had to put a more narrow hem in front then in back! Roll Eyes  It's a brown busy print rayon and I'm sure no one but me will notice.  But it does upset me when something like that happens.

Embroidery designs - - I have the cutting corners designs - - Is there anywhere on Louises site that shows how/where to use these designs?  I've had an embroidery machine since 1996 but have done very little towards embroidering clothing.  The most I've done are pant legs on jeans or capris!! Grin  I like the looks of the designs on this card but can't get it into my head as to where to use.  Please Help!! Grin Grin

Hi everybody -  Starting a new topic since the other one is many pages long.

Status report -  We had a wonderful time in Atlanta and the Expo and met many of you Louise Cutting/Sewing Workshop pattern and technique devotees who read these posts.   Thanks for introducing yourselves, even you lurkers, and thanking me for posting my creations.  Many returned several times for more shopping.   For those who weren't there, I took a number of photos of the sample garments there, but haven't had the chance to upload from the laptop to Flickr.    Will be going by Lenox Mall in Buckhead before heading back this afternoon and post them tonight.

Marcia,   I'm wearing my paisley on tobacco Ebb Top today.   Louise had some of her fashion design illustration embroideries on one of her By Popular Demand jackets and they were a big hit.  Both she and Sandy Miller were so tired after their flights from Puyallup had been cancelled and then spending a couple days trying to get back and packed up for the Atlanta show.     They had the new coat and shell pattern and some other interpretations of her patterns there for the fashion shows but many were still in transit coming back from Washington state.    I hope I took a photo of the one with the designs but can't remember.     Since they didn't take fabric to Puyallup, it was all here.    Some fab linens, even hand painted ones from Japan and Japanese cottons.    If you get a chance to go to the Tampa Expo, there's still much left and new stuff they said they are picking up.

For those of us who didn't get to go, is there a way we can see these linens and order on line?  Usually her fabrics aren't on line.  Louise, what do you think?

LyndaC, I believe if you send Louise a self-addressed envelope and color guidelines, she will send swatches.

Thanks, Karleen.   I was hoping to get around that because I am in Haiti and don't think I could even find a stamp, much less an envelope.  I would have to wait until someone went to Cap Haitien, which is 8 miles and over an hour away, let them give my request to the Missionary Flight International to deliver to someone in America who would send a stamped envelope to Louise.   Grin

Now that I think about it, any fabrics I could order will probably be sold out before I could get them ordered.  Wow.  That is a downer.  But I will save money!  But I will miss Louise's fabrics greatly.

LyndaC, knowing Louise, I'll bet if you email her your situation, she will help you figure something out.  Our DD is in Taiwan, so I sort of understand the logistics though ours are not as convaluted as yours.

Back at home and unpacked, checking my messages etc.

LyndaC re the fabrics, a number of the attendees asked Louise the same question.   Her reply was that because she selects and buys her fabrics in small yardages, like ten yards and less, of each piece, it is not economical for her to set up a process to photograph, price and sell fabrics on the website.    I took some photos of the different color groups that will also be at the Tampa Expo later this month.    She and Sandy have some brand new classes which expanded the sewing process with design ideas  and new industry techniques from designer snoop shopping for many of her current patterns.    My brain is full of ideas after that.

Alice and I did get over to La Madeline and chatted with Shannon Gifford and a small group of the ladies who also stopped by Louise's booth.   We didn't have dinner with Louise and Sandy at all this trip.    Got to get something to eat and work on the photo uplinks later.

This afternoon I cut and sewed a muslin (from muslin) of the P&S shell.  Cut the M+ and I can't be happier.  For total "perfection" I could lower the bust point about .25", but I won't mess with that small of a change.  Can't wait to make it out of "real" fabric.

I also cut and sewed (all but putting in elastic and hemming), for the first time, the Farewell to Arms skirt.  I've used the shirt pattern, but never the skirt.  Recent comments I've seen about it's wonderful flair prompted me to try it.  I really like how the pockets are constructed.  When I'm done, I'll post a photo.

I'll look forward to seeing Louise at Matha Pullen in Arlington, TX (I hope she will be there!).

Sorry - this was back in the prior topic on page 17 and still hoping for an answer when Louise has time to check in.

Quote
I have a question on the sleeves for the new Pure and Simple or any other sleeve for that matter.  While I don't have a very rounded upper back I have a more forward shoulder seam - the ball of the shoulder is rounded to my front.  How should I install a sleeve so that it hangs straight and is in the right position for full range of motion.  It doesn't seem correct for me to just rotate the center of the sleeve cap to the more forward shoulder seam of the bodice.  That to me will make the sleeve crooked.  Am I just over thinking things or how do I compensate?  TIA

Quote
it takes some time to explain all that I want you to do...there are several methods that you can try to get the proper fit with the sleeve. I too have this ball 'thing' happening with my shoulders...so I am aware of the changes that need to be made.
till then, Louise

I just put the two topics back together.  You all can go on until you get to the end of page 20.  So, you have quite a lot of space left before this topic has to be locked.

Carry on.  Smiley

I didn't get to go to the Expo in Atlanta this year --------- boo hoo!!! Sure missed being there too.

But I can't wait to see your pictures, Terri,  and your full report on what you saw and learned!!!! Louise always shares such great ideas and is so generous with her time. And you do a great job of describing and photographing things.  Smiley

I ordered the newest Shapes patterns and am hoping they had some sample garments there. And if so, I bet you got a photo, at least I hope so!!!
My stash is awaiting Spring sewing and some inspiration!

Been searching for some nice, linen/rayon in neutral colors for Spring/Summer tops with no luck. Maybe Louise has some left.

Lots of things to do today but I did upload the photos I took to the Flickr Atlanta Sewing Expo Flickr Set .    New Shapes patterns made up as well which I will post on that topic.    Louise said there were a number of garments still in transit from Puyallup that didn't make it for the show  Cry   Here are some of the highlights.   Check the flickr set for the fabrics

Pure & Simple Coat, Shell and the In the Trenches skirt ensemble  and detail.   The shell's facings are rayon lining because of the heavy texture of the fashion fabric

Linen ensemble with the Less is More top plus higher bias neck with an Of the Moment jacket and One-Seam pant in subtle linen stripe with colors of the top and jacket with contrast tie through buttonholes   A Subtle Twist top with scrunch neck per the Threads article
Louise had all the fabrics for the linen ensembles there

You're welcome Corinne!   Actually, I was told they were not allowing cameras in the expo, but the little Sony Cyber-shot DH got me fits right in my handbag - great for snoop shopping - see that wool lace skirt I saw in Anthropologie.   I can't remember all the details even though I was right there so it's a good record.   And I had Louise's permission to snap them

Terri K - I think I saw you working at Louise's booth  but the booth was so mobbed with women, and I was sick with a bad cold, that I was not up to wading through the sea of customers and disturb you.  Those women were three deep and you were so busy!   Honestly, I think Louise's booth is always The Busiest Booth at the Atlanta Sewing Expo.  No other booth has that much business and money flying.

Terri - Thanks so much for sending the contraband pictures! I love to see what Louise does with her patterns. My friend Doreen L. (who I met in Asheville at the Waechter's Workshop last fall) invited me to the Sewing Expo, but as I work for accountants and this is our "crunch time," I will unfortunately never be able to make it.  Sad  I'm anxious to see your Flicker pics.  I also enjoy reading your blog.  I finished my first Ebb last night and have it on today - have already received a compliment!  I'll be making several more of these.  Has anyone been to the new Waechter's shop?  I'm so happy for Joyce.  Her old shop had ambiance; but hey, no heat, water problems, etc., etc., etc.  Enough is enough!

Happy sewing to everyone!

LyndaC - popping in for just a moment.    That purple fabric is a double sided Japanese cotton jacquard - 45" wide with cream and purpose diamond shaped motifs - hence the diagonal look.  It has lots of texture and an embossed look on both sides.   There was plenty left when they packed up and she has it in a red and a lime green (right next to it) both on cream.   Those are the linen/silk textured vertical pieces to the right.
