I think there's something wrong with my browser. With all this talk, I expected to see something at your web-site, but I can't find anything on the pur and simple shell. Am I doing something wrong?

Speaking of
coats
- I got an e-mail this evening from Neiman Marcus that they had posted the preview Spring Collections and thought I'd check them out. When I saw this Lela Rose (TX designer) ensemble, I did a double take on that
coat
- - go to the link and zoom in on the photos and you'll see why. Use the Ebb and Flow pattern, lengthen and square off the bottom of the Flow, leave the front open and cut a facing, add the loop for the tie, and voila.
Lela Rose Coat at Neiman Marcus
And here's the line drawing of the Flow Blouse:

Ah! I normally pass quickly over anything with an empire line. I have a small belly (had when I was 96 pounds, still have it at 155 pounds) and I tend to look pregnant in those empire lines. Pregnant at age 57 is not the look I'm going for...

sdbev, I'm curious which look you are referring to? None of the Cutting Line Design patterns we've been discussing have empire lines.

Oh I see, the Ebb Blouse pattern. I thought you were talking about the coats - big Duh! on my part. Actually, I've made three of them and think they are very tunic looking vs maternity, which I'm not into either at age 56. Here's one and there are more photos of the rest on my
Flickr Ebb Blouse set

Back here for a minute...many things to cross off the list today.
Thanks for posting your printed Ebb top....I think it looks great in a print...I just checked out your flicker and you have been busy with making the Ebb, the Ebb, the Ebb,
...mine in black moleskin still has the buttons waiting to be sewn on the front. Also, my new Pure and Simple coat is finished and is waiting for buttons...maybe tonight...last evening was installing a new router....all evening...poor webboy! He said if all goes well, the new items will be up on the site tonight or tomorrow...his new laptop frozewhile being updated and has been in for repair for the past few days...and I don't have the programs on my computer anymore. I'm sure I know what I just wrote...geek speak
Back to the Ebb...the horizontal seam is just that...a seam, this way the buttons and front facing could stop and the top becomes a pullover...there is no extra ease below the seaming...so it doesn't have a maternity look, that draft would have to have that section of the pattern slashed and spread to add the fullness needed for tummy room...it's just a seam. If you would like to change the front for a different look...the bottom and top can be combined along the seam stitching line and then split all the way down the front...the front facing continued and then buttons added down the front for the look of a blouse or out of a bit heavier fabric...a jacket.
Back to the embroidery project...till later, Louise

The coat shown is just beautiful. That pattern could turn in to that luscious mustard yellow silk coat. TDF. Thanks for sharing ideas.

Back to the sewing chamber where I'm working on some stuff - I'll surprise you all when I finish.

I have also placed my order. I think this pattern would be perfect to use in classes, and great to make good use of those less-than-a-yard linen scraps. I hope I get to make it up for a trial before I leave for Haiti.

I placed mine this morning. I just visualize the Pure and Simple top as a staple in my wardrobe. The slightly extended shoulder is a good line for me.
Also, I have Sandra Betzina's "equivalent" of the one seam pant. I've made it for years and it is a goto pattern for me when I want pants like right now. What is the difference between the OneSeam pant and the Betzina version?

I'm making progress with my Ebb blouse!! Tomorrow I can stitch the underarm seams and give a quick tryon!! I shortened the sleeves a bit - and now am thinking I may have shortened too much. I also shortened the length. Very anxious to see if it looks like a maternity top on my short round body - or a classy top!!

Once you try it on, you can always shape the side seams a bit if you like ...but, there is no extra fabric that would resemble a maternity top...it is just a horizontal seam.
No, LindaC, you have not placed your order yet...I just checked and I should know
....I have been filling orders from 6:30am until 6:50pm and they went into the mail throughout the day and I didn't come across yours.....I take visa/master card. After getting all the American orders done, I had to fill out the customs forms for Canada about a dozen going there and I think 4 to England, 1 each to Belgium, Paris, Australia and South Africa.
Tomorrow is packing for Puyallup...20+ boxes and 2 steamer trunks of garments (1 for the rolling rack in the booth and the other for the fashion show that is on everyday) can go out on Thursday or Friday...but also have to pack for Atlanta and Tampa at the same time because the shows are all back to back. I've been getting some very pretty fabrics in for the Atlanta and Tampa shows.
I now get to go down and boil water...we are having new pipes and meters replaced in the neighborhood...not sure if they hit something or it is just a precaution...but it is so strange...never had to do that before...having to double think everything you do. till much later...me sitting down, feet going up!

I finished my EBB blouse last night!! Tried in on this am - - with jeans - and it looks great. I can see why Terri has made several. I was in a hurry for an appointment so didn't even put shoulder pads in and SO thought it was a great fitting top!!
The arms end just at the elbows- which is what I thought I wanted! I do need to lengthen them on the next one. I made a size Med - straight out of the box - except for the length. I'm a D cup but the top fit fine. I thought I might need to do a small FBA on the next one but doesn't look it. Will be able to tell more when I wear it. With a pair of slacks it will look fantastic - but - jeans are what I wear the most of and I'm tired of knit tops - fancy or not!!
I have a class tomorrow re how to use the software that I purchased with my new machine. Maybe pictures on Saturday.
ET - elbows not shoulders!!!

Marcia welcome to the Ebb Fan club. Please share a photo when you get a chance.
I've only accomplished some planning (which is good) the past week because I've been sick and so congested at night which makes sleeping impossible. I feel so much better today and attended my neighbor's church valentine luncheon and then we walked her dog up and down the hills in our neighborhood. Then I was sent to Lowes for another gallon of ceiling texture paint
does it ever end? When I returned there was the mailman and the envelope with the Pure & Simple Coat and Shell
. I've already determined my size and have the pattern ready to cut out using some spring-y colors since the sun is out and the weather is great except for the strong winds. It's been a great day!

I'm making the first wearable muslin shell from a beige/white cotton batik fabric that I thought looked like coral. It has no give whatsoever, so this will be the largest size I would make - using Louise's guidance in the instructions for ease. When I make a new pattern up that is a classic I know I will make many times, I cut and sew up several in different fabrics and different sizes to get an idea of the fit I like. With nine sizes for the shell, there's a lot of customizing you can do. I also measured and compared some of my RTW shells. Louise allows 3-4" of ease at bust and hip for this shell. As such, I can go up or down one size within three sizes, down for very stretchy fabrics and up one for tightly woven, no give fabrics and the bust point is good. I have a piece of stretch cotton that I made a sheath dress from a couple of summers ago for another, and a stretch charmeuse silk for the third. I also think that will would be a versatile spring/summer piece in stretch cotton pique and it takes so little yardage that I can make one out of some remnants I've kept.
I've already got my first shell traced and ready to cut out. I'll make those first. Regarding the coat/topper, I measured one of my jackets that fits me well, with similar proportions to the pattern, and also compared those to Louise's size and ease in the pattern.

Gotta to ask, as I am awaiting my copy of the pattern; Is this information in the Pure and Simple Shell instructions? Seeing it here, I will copy to a word document and keep for reference. But I still want to know, is that in the instructions with the pattern?

sdBev, All the body measurements, final garment measurements, ease allowed - everything is in the pattern instructions, down to when/how to clip, serge, press and even how to press the darts depending on your bust size. Louise never leaves anything to chance. I've got everything sewn up except for the side seams and the bottom and will finish up tomorrow. I stopped around ten pm and don't sew late at night because I tend to make mistakes.

Thanks the Pure and Simple wil be my first Lousie Cutting pattern (I have a couple of booklets) and I'm both looking forward to the pattern and anxious about the experience!

SDBev - If you are using Louises patterns for the first time - make sure you read thru the instructions "first". I "glanced" at them when doing the Ebb - and got caught up in doing my own way a couple of times!!
Of course the gament turned out fine - but Louise had a couple of neat tricks that I missed!!
Since you're an experienced sewer I'm judging you like me!! So forgive me - just thought you could profit from my mistakes!!
And they're really not 'mistakes' - anyway I'll be anxious to see the new top. My pattern hadn't arrived as of yesterday when I picked up the mail. I'm off to an embroidery software class in about an hour. I could easily put a design on the shoulder, front or back of the Ebb!!

sdBev, you are in for a treat! Just reading the instructions is an education. Besides her design ability, and perfect, clear illustrations, her detailed instructions always improve your skills. Then there is her methods of measuring that are simplier and always improve fit.
Please get the Oneseam also for all the above reasons.

My first P&S shell is finished. Here it is on a mannequin (note that this is not a dress form) and a detail of the curved hem. I am pleased with how it turned out and enjoyed the process. As those of you who sew Louise's patterns know, it is best not to assume anything and follow each step of instructions for cutting, clipping, sewing, trimming and pressing to the letter. I stopped sewing last night because I didn't want to get sloppy and mess up the industry techniques that result in a fine sewn garment. I have a photo session scheduled with the stylist later this afternoon after he finishes the last coat of paint on the ceiling - hopefully it will still be daylight
Here are the fabrics I have chosen for the next two shells and a jacket
L to R: stretch cotton, stretch silk charmeuse, and a silk/rayon tweed for a jacket using the P&S coat pattern eliminating the bottom section.
