My client wants a dull or matte finish lining. I looked at duchess satin and matte satin, both still has sheen to it. Does anyone know what type of fabric has dull or matte finish? I will use it under either silk chiffon or silk organza.

Thanks in advance Smiley

What kind of garment are you lining, and what is the outer garment fabric? Both matte and duchesse satins are pretty heavy for lining, in addition to having sheen. I would recommend a voile or batiste, or some slightly heavier fabric, depending on the garment/fabric.

Hi Ann, I will be using it under silk organza. Yes I have browsed around today and talked to my client, and we decided just few minutes ago that we will be using batiste. It is for a wedding dress, the dress' style is not drapey, so that's why we finally chose batiste. Thanks Ann Smiley

Silk Crepe de chine?  It's dull, drapes beautifully & is available in lots of colors & weights.

If you prewash ambiance, it loses a great deal of what little sheen it had.  The "posh" lining from JoAnn is polyester and has no sheen.

Thanks for the tips ladies. I suggested all of those to my clients and she went to the fabric store to compare them. And after a lot of thought, she went ahead with cotton batiste. She really wants it to be very breatheable since she'll be married in tahiti and it's gonna be very warm there. Smiley

I know you've already decided, but for the benefit of others, I thought I'd mention that I've been seeing chiffon and georgette being used as lightweight linings in RTW lately. I have some lightweight wool blends with this treatment, also some lightweight skirts. It keeps the soft hand of the fashion fabric while adding a little support, opacity, and slippage to the garment.
