Button Sources

A few weeks ago, someone posted that they were looking for buttons. For those who live in Canada, check out

This is a store in Ottawa with high end fabrics (wait until you see the prices!) but their buttons are reasonable and there is a good selection. Julie NAYY

Julie, I saw that $210 cashmere. Like wow!!!! Wonder how much they sell of ii?
I would assume that people of money would choose to buy there, and have a coutoure seamstress execute the production. Certainly wouldn't be me!!!!!

Yes, there are some very expensive fabrics there. I have actually noticed that they had some of the same fabrics that I have and the prices were double or triple my price.
At first, I thought wow that is through the roof, but they are in downtown Ottawa and rent is expensive, probably several thousand per month. Then they have employees, and other overhead costs that I don't. So it is conceivable that they have to ask those prices to stay in business.
Ottawa is Canada's capital and there are quite a few women there who get their clothes made by high end dressmakers. I attended a couturier school there and the owner, Richard Robinson, used to design the wardrobe for the wife of the Governor General. He had a wedding gown in his shop that was $30,000 but it took two women 6 months to make it and hand bead it. I heard that it sold at $15,000 so that doesn't even begin to pay for the labour.
There are so many hidden costs in doing business and most people don't realise that the price has to reflect that.
Companies with great big warehouses and minimal staff can have bargain fabrics, but the small business owner who is trying to carry different stuff simply can't do that.

Thanks Julie, for that link, I'll pass it on to a friend who visits Ottawa.
In Vancouver, a great store for buttons is Button, Button. It is on Cordova not far from the Cruise ships. They are used a lot by the movie industry and have vintage as well as new. Lots of variety.
