I posted this on another topic:

If you get the Internal Server Error, just hit the back button on your browser and the page comes back. You can then sometimes post or go to the original page that you were trying to navigate to.

If you can't post, then copy your post from that page you went back to, open SG in another window or tab, go to the topic and hit Reply, paste your post, and it will post fine. Usually.  ;)

My point is that the Internal Server error does not mean that your post is lost (if you were posting) or that you can't navigate to the page you were trying to get to. That browser's back button is your friend. It's a workaround. Sometimes.

Yes, this is my experience at the moment too.

Sometimes simply going back and repeating the action works the second time around - as hitting reply did for this post. Other times simply going to the opposite end of the page has worked - as it did when I clicked page 2 at the bottom of the screen after I'd got the server message when clicking on page 2 at the top.

I'm a newbie so I'm easily confused by the navigation but it's making me look at the page layouts in more detail which is one benefit at least.
Pfaffs, Berninas and Jukis - so much fun! If only I had time I might stick some rhinestones on them that have fallen off the dresses! :D

Hi.  No bug report--just flexing my muscles here.  Had problems but finally got registered with a new username (haven't posted much in the past so no big loss) and am checking that I can post before I add a photo, etc.  So glad this site is up and running again! Didn't realize how important this community is to me until it was gone.

only getting 500 internal server notices. giving up. working but it's soooooo slow. (almost working.) this site seems to come and go. odd times, no real pattern to it that I can see. It's 2pm in US...are you all getting ready for superbowl and clogging the internet while the guys watch football?

Oops, you caught us bessiecrocker! That's it exactly.

You're right, the site has been especially buggy today. Blaming it somehow on football seems only fair. ;D

I cannot access Classic SG, starting yesterday. I get a blank page. I don't get any error messages.

Same here, but I haven't changed it.  I *hope* it means our hosts are still working on the repairs.

Think the ability to select threads to mark is new.  Previously, you could mark everything on a board "read" if you wanted, but not just selected ones.  (Previously, the work-around was to open every page (that had posts you hadn't yet read) on the threads you wanted marked "read.")

I like this too!

Your post is marked "Today" for me.  I'm guessing that the "Yesterday" you're seeing may relate to the time set in your profile.  Could you take a look?

Click "Profile" --> (put cursor on) Modify Profile (and choose) "Look and Layout" from drop down menu

Then tell me what it says under "Time Offset"

Thanks!

I tried classic Artisan square, I assume, I couldn't go because of bugs, and didn't worry about it, hopefully, I can sometime in the future.

I've noticed a few down times in the last couple of days, mainly between 10 - 11pm UK time. Are there still problems?

Yes; there are still problems.

I wish I could give you some good news, or at least a clue what is going on, but the truth is no one is quite sure why it keeps failing.

There's always a reason; but finding it can be a lot like a DIY appendectomy -painful, messy, and fraught with the possibility more things will go wrong.

Good to know it's not just me!  I haven't noticed a particular time, just that I'll read a few posts, ask it to show me my unread posts and suddenly it's hung.  I'll go away for awhile and when I return, it looks good to go again.  And the cycle starts anew.

Hi DL -- This isn't a bug report, but I never got an email with the register link when I tried to register as CCL -- I could have made a mistake in the email address.  At any rate,  -- I checked my SPAM filter, no email.

But when I tried to register again, it said that there was already a CCL user.

So I registered as CCL Sews -- but I am really CCL.

Anyway I can get my old username back?

Thanks!

Edited to Add:   I seem to be able to post only one photo in a reply -- (externally hosted on Flicker).  If I put one in a post and preview, it shows up fine.  The minute I add a second one, I get the Forbidden error -- this seems to happen somewhat consistently.   If I delete the second photo, and hit preview again, no forbidden error and the photo displays.   HTH

PS.  IT's good to be back and thank you for all the work you are doing to get us going again.

Loss of content of posts and private messages

Sometimes when composing a post or private message, it's not until you click the submit button that you discover your 'log in' has timed out
When this happens, SG wipes all the content that was entered and takes you to the login in dialogue.  When you log in, you discover that the content has been wiped and you have to start over from scratch.

On other sites / forums where I am a member, this does not happen.

On other sites, the user experience when the log in period times out whilst composing is -
submit, display message and/or log in dialogue box,
complete log in - display message your post was submitted, view here/continue to topic if not automatically directed.
post submitted/message sent and display

morgan, it's best to copy your post before submitting until DL is able to get everything back to normal.  That way you can paste it later if you have a posting failure.

I changed my login option to stay logged in forever.  Its there by the login field.

Saying that Ive still had times when I compose a reply but recieve an "internal server error" when I click 'post'.  Especially annoying because I still must spell check and then preview every message before I click post.  Love my tablets, but I'm about to give upon autocomplete.  Already turned off autocorrect.  Oh yeah,  in case DL is reading, I'm primarily using and IPAD IOS 10.2.1

The internal server errors are plaguing everyone.  I've lost a few posts myself. :(  It's just one item among several that is being worked on.

CCL Sews, I believe I manually activated your account, as the emails have not been working.

Hi DL,
I was trying to post in the Individual Projects, UFO's.....with a picture I uploaded on Flickr.
I got this message:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /sg/index.php on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Thanks,

DL- eventually (last night) it allowed the post, but it took several tries.  So I suppose it is intermittent.

Most of these bugs are intermittent.  That's what makes them so hard to find to fix.

Syndi, clear your cookies and temporary files from your browser. Whatever browser you use, just Google how to clear those files from it and you may notice an improvement.

I don't know what is causing the "forbidden" bug.

I talked to our hosts on the phone again today, and they're still trying to figure out what is causing a bunch of little errors.
