Well I did it. I ordered 2 yards of camel wool gaberdine from fabric.com and three yards of a tomato red wool gabardine. The camel is for a pair of wool pants and the tomato red is for a suit. Vogue DKNY 2833 to be exact. The reviews over at Pattern Review talked me into it. The wool was cheap enough I'm going to go for it. I'm going to make my muslin out of wool! I am so tired of working in cheap fabrics that I can't press properly! Sale ends today! (Hah I'm an enabler...)

The downhill slide has begun! First order at Fabric Mart gets 10 yards of a mystery bundle..Hmm. There's some pants fabric I've had my eye on.

SusinOK, be vewy, vewy caweful (spoken with an Elmer Fudd [of Bugs Bunny cartoon fame] voice).  Online ordering is TOO much fun! Grin  Seriously, though, enjoy your new online purchases.  I hope they turn out to be exactly what you expected.

I placed the order Monday and had shipping confirmation sent to me late yesterday. That was fast! Now we'll see what the fabric turns out to be like! Swatches? 2 yards is a swatch, right? hehe.

My wool gaberdine arrived today! Both pieces look really good. I love the tomato red. It will be perfect for a suit. Can't wait to get the pattern and get started. I'll start with the easy piece, the skirt, hehe. The camel is also good.

Ordered on Monday, arrived Friday. I like Fabric.com! And they gave me a $5 coupon for my second order. They know how to keep you coming back.

Okay ~ see I am a sucker for a great price on fabric!  And I did manage to withstand the temptation of the wool sale at Fashions Fabric Club but a $1.98 a yard was too good of a buy to pass up!  Especially since Fabric.com had really good pieces of fabric on sale for that wonderful price!  So I placed an order on Tuesday and it is sitting next to me at the computer right now!  Hey, they are getting really good with that instant gratification thing!  I truly thought that I wouldn't see these goods until next week.

Yeah, you probably want to know what I got, huh?!  If not, don't read any further...and if you are interested keep going!  Smiley
I bought the pucker knit in salmon (which looks like a lite pink); ivory and lilac ~ 2 yards of each.  I bought one piece to use as muslin fabric for my new Dana's Top from Silhouttes and the rest I thought would make nightgowns if nothing else.  But this is a really kewl knit and will make an interesting t-shirt and tank top!

Then I got 2 yards of a striped medium weight dark blue denim that I want to use to "copy" this JJill denim jacket:

Finally I bought 3 yards of a chocolate brown and a camel moleskin ~ just because.  But now I think I am going to use it to make huge floor pillows that we can use while watching television.  There wasn't a bad piece in the bunch!  And you know how it is when you purchase inexpensive fabric ~ you worry a little that you were seduced by the price!  Not this time ~ 14 yards of fabric for the grand price of $34.46 with shipping and handling!  I have definitely had my fabric fix for the week!

The sale is still going on...I mean if you're interested!  Wink

I keep deleting those Fabric.com newsletters, so I can avoid temptation, Carolyn.  I love the idea of big comfy moleskin pillows! I saw that their doupioni was on sale, and my finger hesitated ever so slightly before hitting the delete key.  I must remain strong! Smiley

I have washed and dryed the pucker knits and they look so good out of the dryer!  The pucker is more pronounced and the color looks deeper  They did shrink about 3" in the length but not much noticeable in the width.  Will definitely let you know how they sew up!

Those pj bottoms are going to be so cute, Carolyn!  I bet she'll have them made up in no time!  BTW, does DD have her own sewing machine, or do you get bumped from yours when the inspiration hits her?

Oh please...there are more than enough sewing machines in this household to go around!  Grin  But she has her own set-up in her bedroom.  A complete set of everything including a set of shelves with her stash on it.  I got tired of her "borrowing" my stuff so I just bought her some of her own and then she invested in additional pieces.  Now I can "borrow!"

I can't wait to see how the pj bottoms turn out too!  She definitely "sees" things differently than I do!

I have been purchasing from Fabric.com on and off for about 7 years now, I think.  They have some great deals on fabric and notions a few times a year.  Their fabric selection has grown in the past few years (yippee) but their notions have decreased.  But I guess that's what Joann is for.   Grin  They do have a frequent buyer's club but it sure takes a long time to rack up points if you don't buy often or buy much.  But I have always had great service from them, customer service is very helpful.

I just ordered from Fabric.com.  I ran out of pattern-ease (my prefered pattern tracing material), and I was mad at Joann's.  Not the best logic, I know.  They were the only vender where I could order a bolt.  I even tried Joann.com.  It came quick, and I'm very happy.

I didn't even realize they carried it.  Great!

I recently found a line of Japanese cotton lawn fabric from them that were the exact ones used in a Tori Richards' line from a year or so back!  DH loves Tori Richards' shirts and gets at least one when we go on to Hawaii.  Well, he got the shirt on sale for $50.  3 yd of the same fabric from Fabric.com would be under $20.  How can I resist that?  For some reason, I always thought Tori Richards' fabrics were exclusive and never dawned on me to look for the fabrics.  Needless to say, I'll be on the lookout for some good knock-offs now!

Fabric.com is having their warehouse sale on May 19th.  Has anyone gone to their sale?  I know that it's held only twice a year.  I'm only two hours from Atlanta and thought I'd go.  Just wanted to hear of anyone else's experience.

If I don't find anything, I can always go to Gail K's while I'm there!

I went to the Warehouse sale and it was well worth it!  It was very crowded, but I found some really good buys for between $3.00 and $6.00 a yard.  They include some stretch denim, glen plaid, a suiting fabric from Jones New York, stretch lace, and some beautiful wool knit.  If you have never been, it is well worth the drive.  The next warehouse sale is in October.

I then went to Gail K's and found some great jersey knit and lots of slinky.

Good to hear.  I'm probably 5 and a half hours from Atlanta, but cruise down there, or through there, periodically.  Either to shop, or on my way to visit two sisters who live in Florida.  I've ordered from fabric.com for a number of years, and when I've driven through Atlanta I've often thought I'd stop, but never did.   Perhaps my next trip down will be in October!  K

I use to purchase from Fabric.com on regular basis about 4 years ago.  I then got disillusioned with their fabric selections and felt they were offering more of quilting/home dec fabrics.  So went about two years and did not buy anything.  Then recently I have seen fabrics I like that others have purchased and started browsing their site again.  I have been buying more fabrics from them of late  and just this week received fabrics I ordered last weekend.  I purchased a really pretty yellow eyelet fabric with sunny yellow cotton batiste for a lining.  I also purchased some tencel fabric and some additional cotton broadcloth fabrics for linings for some other eyelet fabrics.

About a month ago, I ordered some knit fabrics.  Not exactly what I thought they were going to be but not bad.  They are prompt in shipping and provide very good customer service.

I received a mailer from them that stated they were going to beef up their notions soon as well as expand their fabric selection.  I'll be very interested to see what sorts of stuff they add. Oh yes, and don't forget that they have free return shipping too.

I did some serious scoring of fabric at the fabric.com warehouse sale, since I only live about 15 minutes from their warehouse and was there promptly at 9 am!  Got lots of great Anne Klein/Jones NY silk tweeds, silk/wool combos, several colors of silk charmuse, can't even remember all the great fashion fabric---I paid about $6/yard.  I am going to be the best dressed gal at Publix.   thumbsup

I recently - well back in the winter - bought some tiger faux fur from Fabric.com to make a vest.  When it came in, it was a much better quality that I had thought it would be, so ordered another yard and it became a jacket.  http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slideshow.jsp?Uc=12l2aau9.2yuuiewp&Uy=p3ozq1&Upost_signin=Slideshow.jsp%3Fmode%3Dfromshare&Ux=0&mode=fromshare&conn_speed=1

I've been really pleased with the quality of the fabrics I've ordered from them.  I haven't ordered a lot lately as I've been trying to abstain - my stash closets are groaning!

Ann, cool jacket!  I love it, and I really like how you arranged the "stripes".

Karla, I think fabric.com is in Marietta, GA.  You know, NYC and GStreet aren't the only places for "meet and shops".  We could always drum up an Atlanta weekend, around the fabric.com warehouse sale, for us southeastern chicks.  K

Karla, according to fabric.com's website, they don't have a physical store.

Nope, they don't, but...they do have 'clear the warehouse' sales once or twice a year, when they open the warehouse up to the public.

I've never made it over to ATL for one, but have thought about it once or twice... Wink

Here's what I think.  Whoever hears about the fabric.com sales (or any others that might be feasible) should post it in the GRITS (Girls Raised In The South) Regional Groups thread, and we could then drum up a "meet and shop."  I'd try to go.  K

That's a good idea.  I'll try to remember to do that the next time I see a notice in my inbox!

But you can go to their site and sign up for their newsletters.  They come once a week or so...every once in a while bringing news of a wonderful fabric at a price you can't pass up (my last indulgence was modal rayon/lycra jersey knits...wonderful stuff!! At something like $8/yd, including shipping).  So sign up at the peril of increasing your stash... Wink

I just realized this but fabric.com is having a Memorial Day special:  $5 off for orders totaling $25 - $49.99, $10 off for orders totaling $50 - 74.00, and $20 off for orders totalling $75 or more.  The sale ends May 31.

If you have an order for $75, that would be almost a 27% discount on the whole order.  Not too shabby.

I just noticed an option in the shipping field when checking out.  One of the option is for pickup at the warehouse.  I didn't see this in the shipping info page but it would be another way to save some $ for those who are close enough.

I hope this is appropriate for me to post...The next warehouse sale will either be in late September or early October. We have a special regional list we use to send out the warehouse sale invitation. Send me a PM and I will get you on the list. We have one sale in the spring and one in the fall. I am so glad everyone enjoyed this one. The Jones NY and Anne Klein fabrics were very special! Kristl

I just got my box from fabric.com.
The rayon/lycras (most recently listed) are fabulous, strong, resilient, great color and sheen.  Great value.  Go buy.
The stretch cotton poplin - another good fabric.  Good weight for shirts or dresses, feels cottony, but has good lycra stretch.  I got the 'pepper', which is a great fiesta red.
The ribbed rayon/lycra - I don't see any ribs on my piece of 'blackberry'.  Again, a great hand, a bit lighter than the other rayon/lycras.
The pintucked cotton - nice quality.  I'll see if I can dye mine.
I'm on a no-buy stint for June, otherwise I'd be stashing like crazy.
Go forth and buy....  Evil

Touran, thanks for the 'reviews'. I've had some surprises from fabric.com in the knit arena - not anything icky, but just not the weight or hand I'd expected. I love the rayon knits I've gotten from them, though, and the prices are wonderful.

I got some absolutely luscious printed batiste shirting from them recently. Their linen/cotton canvas is really nice too; I stashed some for future bag-making.
