I started a thread which has evolved into an all encompassing discussion which many people might want to read/post.  How do I change the subject of the thread I started to something which is more descriptive of the discussion?

Modify your first post (click the "Modify" button in the upper right hand corner of your first post, and change the Subject line there.  That will change the name of the thread, and new posts will use the new name.  Old posts will still display the old name.  If you need the names of all of the posts to change, an admin or mod would need to do it for you.

Please let us know if you need help!

Found: a favorite silver bracelet that I hadn't seen for a while.  On its four quarters it says "Welcome Introspection; Accept Wisdom; Seek Illumination; Embrace Innocence."   It's like a "magic 8-ball" on the wrist...

How to get the url for a picture (instead of the url for the web page the picture is on):  Put your cursor on the picture whose url you want, and right click. This will give you a drop-down menu--choose "Properties."  You will need to copy the entry under "Address (URL)."  You can do that most easily by putting your cursor on that entry, holding the "Ctrl" key down while hit the letter "A" (this will highlight the entire URL, which may be to long to all show...), then the letter "C" (which will copy the URL).  When you come back to your edit window, you can paste the URL you've copied by holding the "Ctrl" key down and hiting the "V" key to past the URL text where you need it.

Um, there may be an easier way (though I haven't used a windows machine in forever, so it might not be exactly the same). I usually just right click on the image, choose "copy image location" (or something along those lines) and then you can just use CTRL (or command on a Mac) + V and have it paste it in your brackets. It copies it automatically that way, (no need to command + C), and you are happily on your way. Just a bit faster. HTH!  Cool

Nice to know how to do it on a Mac, but unhappily, there isn't a corresponding choice on a PC. Sad  I'll go ahead and edit the picture instructions to include Mac details (although not tonight)! Wink Grin  Thanks for your help! Smiley

Here is a way to check if you have Private Messages waiting for you, to read only the posts which have accumulated since your last visit to SG, or to read the new replies to your previous posts:

First, on the home page (or at the top of any page) make sure that the little arrow just below the word "SEARCH" is pointing up.  When it is, you will see three underlined phrases, which are actually links which will take you to various places on SG.

The first is a link to allow you to read any Private Messages (PMs) that may have been sent to you by other members

The second link  "Show unread posts since the last visit"  will give you a list of all the new posts that have happened since your last visit.  When you get to that list, you can also click on "all unread posts" at the bottom right if you want to find more posts that you may have missed.

The third link is the one I think you will really like: "Show new replies to your posts"  It will show you which topics (and you can just click on that underlined topic) have replies to your last posts.

HTH,
Kathryn

What if I just want to see my subscribed threads? For example, I had read the replies to one of my posts a couple of days ago (and deleted the email with the link), but decided today to go back and respond as the situation had changed, and ended up going through the advanced search to find the posts by my username and subject so that I could find the thread without wading through the forum. Surely there's a better way? Even if it's something that I've missed and makes me look silly? Because I seriously love that feature....a dropdown menu on the top bar would be awesome too--but that might be asking a bit much. Grin

You can see a list of your subscribed threads by clicking the "Profile" button near the top of each page.  Then in the box on the left labled "Modify Profile", click on the link titled "Notifications and Email"  That will take you to a page which shows all of your "Current Topic Notifications" (the threads you've subscribed to).  The name of each thread is a clickable link that will take you to that thread.

HTH!

Thanks,

I have a Mac too, and while I did have some difficulty getting the image to upload (had to give it about three tries) it did finally work. Hopefully, DL can help you out. I think my new one is from an image hosting site...I'll double check in case that would make it easier for you. :-)

OK, I checked...it appears that I uploaded it. Are you hiding the extension? "Un-hiding" the extension might help?

If you can't get it, there is an option for using an image hosting site and posting the image URL--I recommend Picasa, Photobucket is pretty easy to use as well. Flikr and a few other similar sites would probably yield the same results though. Smiley
