how to use white serger without blade
« on: October 06, 2010, 04:39:38 PM »
Hello-
This is my first time on here so hopefully I'm in the right place...  I have a white serger 534 and am trying to find out how to use it without the blade.  Is there anyone out there that can help me or atleast point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

I would not recommend you use it without the knife engaged.  If you do not want to cut the fabric simply run the fabric slightly left of the blade.  If you run it without the blade there is a great risk of the fabric getting caught in the loopers and breaking them (which will equal a big repair bill).

Adding to what Gigi said, I find that if I keep the blade active, I'm more careful because I know that shaving off could badly affect my sewing.

But if you really insist, most blades can be deactivated.  There should be a lever or knob that you can push on. That will move the blade to the right enough to then rotate it out of the way.  On my serger, I push a circular knob to the right and then rotate the knob towards me.
