Medea's "Cocktail and Casual Chic" *No comments here please*
« on: November 02, 2017, 01:00:06 PM »
I plan to sew a Capsule wardrobe with some nice clothes to wear when going out with friends, at dinners and similar events.
I have had thoughts about a "little black dress" a long time and it where I want to start my sewing.

My colors will be:
Neutrals - Black and Golden Beige
Accents - Orange (or if I change my mind, Wine)
Prints - I have some Liberty Tana Lawn, which will match well

Overs:
Uppers:
  • Sequin top, black
  • Blouse/shirt, golden matte satin
  • T-shirt, golden jersey (new TNT) (finished in Oct.)
  • Portrait Blouse (TNT), Orange Cotton voile
  • Granville Shirt (TNT), liberty print1
  • Granville Shirt (TNT), liberty print2
Lowers:
  • Little Black Dress, Knipmode 10-2017, cotton gabardine
  • Gertie's Pencil Skirt (TNT) black gabardine
  • Gertie's Pencil Skirt (TNT) light beige wool

I found a pic of the colors I've chosen for my swap and here it is.

I really like Ruthie's post about her timeframe. I think that would be good for me to think about what to sew and when.

BEFORE the rules came out - a simple tee top in sparkling gold jersey.
NOVEMBER - I'll sew a toile for and complete my "Little Black Dress"
DECEMBER- Prepare a lot of projects for sewing my Capsule Wardrobe and if I get time in the end of December, sew the black Sequin Top
JANUARY - Sew Jacket in black gabardine, a longline Cardigan in golden jersey and a pencil skirt in light beige wool.
FEBRUARY- Black Pencil Skirt and a sleeveless Granville Shirt
MARCH - a Granville Shirt and a Portrait Blouse
APRIL - Blouse in golden cotton satin and catch up everything else.
MAY - Edit all photos and present my Cocktail and Casual Chic Capsule Wardrobe

When I looked at my plan and time frame I thought that I would check that I sew the garment's in an order so I get some outfits along the way and I made some notes in my bullet journal (bujo) and think my time frame shows a good order for sewing.

Today I'll finish my first pencil skirt wearable muslin. It's Gertie's Pencil Skirt from her first book. It's a favorite skirt and this is just a smaller size than I've sewn before.

I spent a little time sketching my garments with help of my "Fashion Sketchbook" and it helped me to see that my plan actually works.

What do you think??

(Click on the picture so you can see it full-sized)

PS. I used the Essentials Fashion Sketchbook to draw my garments and you can find it here: https://goo.gl/gsHFVt

I've changed my country to Sweden and therefore left my patterns, fabrics and so on for 10 days. I have a lot to sew for my two newly born grandchildren BUT yesterday I found some lovely darkblue denim and suddenly I wanted to sew a pair of jeans, or two. I don't even use to wear jeans. ;D But maybe that will change.
I have the Ginger Jeans pattern from Closet Case Patterns and I've sewn one pair for a friend a year ago and I really like the look of a pair of skinny jeans.

The picture is of the highwaist and I want it a little lower, more midrise. But we'll see if I'll change my plan for navy for one of my neutrals and include a pair of jeans.

No, I don't want to change my plan. But I will sew a pair of jeans outside the plan. If I sew my black dress and before that my toile for the black dress the last two weeks in November I can sew a pair of jeans i the beginning of December. That's my thought but I know that it will probably not be enough time for sewing in December.

I've sewed my first attempt of the dress for my SWAP. This one is in navy blue stretch twill and I already love it. I made an FBA and it fit like perfect.

(click for a better view)
I've already cut my black dress in a light ponte di roma and I think I will sew it tonight, or tomorrow.

I've finished my LBD for my SWAP and I've also added it to Pattern Review's LBD contest. This dress is really my style and I feel beautiful when I wear it. I've already cut a red one to wear at Christmas.

Elizabeth Made This also mentioned my dress in her Sew Saturday Snippets #1 post in her blog.

There hasn't been much sewing lately. I had a knitting project which had a deadline last week and then I had to catch up with another knitting pattern which I am working on. But today I cleaned my cutting table and hope to cut some of my projects for the swap.

I really have to change my timetable. This was my first thoughts:

But this is what I will try to follow from now:
BEFORE the rules came out - I sewed a simple tee top in sparkling gold jersey.
NOVEMBER - I sewed a toile for and completed my "Little Black Dress"
DECEMBER- I didn't prepare any of my coming projects
JANUARY - Sew a longline Cardigan in golden jersey
FEBRUARY- Black Pencil Skirt and one in light beige wool and a sleeveless Granville Shirt
MARCH -  Jacket in black gabardine, a Granville Shirt and a Portrait Blouse
APRIL - Blouse in golden cotton satin and catch up everything else.
MAY - Edit all photos and present my Cocktail and Casual Chic Capsule Wardrobe

Now it's just a couple of weeks left of this SWAP, or actually five weeks and I hope that it will be enough for me to finish.
I have finished at least half of my SWAP garments and there are a few more which will hopefully be finished this weekend.

I am working on:
  • a light beige pencil skirt
  • a longline cardigan in sparkling jersey
I've cut:
  • a black pencil skirt
  • a black Hvar Jacket
I've prepared the fabrics for:
  • a bow blouse
  • a sleeveless shirtblouse
and I have finished a black Granville shirtblouse in chiffon and sateen and a top in sparkling golden jersey.

Now of to the sewing machine to finish a couple of garments this weekend.

I'm in the last minute sewing mood and think I will finish everything in time. I discovered yesterday that I sewn one top too much. But that doesn't matter. I love to use it even if it's not a part of my SWAP.

But two of these will be in my swap. We'll see which.
